I hope they make some kind of adjustment to the lottery due to Covid-19 league stoppage.

Perhaps if the season were to continue, only 8 teams would make the playoffs thus leading to 22 teams in the lottery (Grizzlies being one) and hopefully the odds are flat enough to where they can win a top 4 pick... thus forcing the grizzlies pick to convey next year unprotected.

The above scenario is just an example but if the season does not continue, several teams in the bubble of making the playoffs will feel cheated about not having the opportunity to play enough games and if they need to shorten the amount of games and the playoffs, several teams may feel cheated about not having the benefit being in the playoffs and also not being in the lottery.

The real prize is Cade Cunningham next year.  He is Luka Doncic plus defense

Patrick Williams.  He’s  a 6’8” swing with a 6’11” wingspan.  He’s strong and athletic.  He’s a smart team defender who switches well, defends the perimeter, a decent weak side shot blocker, and can defend the paint a bit against traditional bigs (Vernon Cary).  On offense, he moves well without the ball knowing when to cut.  He plays above the rim finishing alley oops.  His outside shot is a work in progress, but has good form and knocks down his free throws.  He’s also still only 18.  He’s my guy at 17.  I’d even give up one of the other picks to move up a couple of slots.

Look at that 6’8” physique at 18 and a few months

Is his ceiling like a combination of Maurice Harkless and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist?

Say a poor man's Jonathan Isaac?

Per mock drafts these day, his range is around 13

He does checkmark lots of things teams like from a modern day versatile prospect

13 is about as early as I’ve seen him in mock drafts.  I still see him in the 20’s in some of them.

His defensive versatility and movement without the ball on offense are things that I think Stevens would like.

He has better shooting potential both in spot ups and off of screens than MKG or Harkless. I don’t think P Williams will move on the perimeter well enough to defend higher end wings. Ideally defensively I see him thriving as a G Williams style Swing man who  spends some time at the small ball 5. This will allow him to take advantage of slower defenders on offense. In that role he could be an excellent long term addition for the Cs.

I think it’s hard to compare him because he’s so young and played a supporting role in college.  I’m confident he will be a good defender at the 3/4.  If his 3 point shooting comes along, he be a pretty good 3 and D player as well as being able to cut and finish above the rim.  He hasn’t shown much as a play maker which is why he could be available at 17,  but because of his age and physical gifts, there’s potential.

I see not many folks are impressed with Kaleb Wesson

Which is understandable.  He could still improve on his mobility to ready for the NBA.  He is in between Greg Monroe/Swanigan and Horford in terms of mobility?

But he has progressed nicely and maybe could slim down a bit more/improve footwork.  Become closer to Al Horford mobility.  Work ethic is there

He was 315 pounds out of high school. Michael Sweetney heavy size.  Two years ago slim down to 290.  Hawks and Celts gave him a tryout last offseason and recommended to work harder to slim down.

He further dropped his weight down to 255 pounds.  And had a productive season for Ohio St this past season.

He is skilled + IQ  and shot the 3 at 42 percent (top percentile) .  Avg 2 assist per game (excellent for a big)

Not sure if 30 is too high to take a risk on him...

It’s interesting that he worked out for the Cs last predraft. He would fit nicely into the Cs offense. I could see him being the Cs #46 pick.

I think he’ll probably go undrafted.  If I’m looking for a big at 46 I’d be interested in  Udoka Azubuike   He’s not going to shoot the three but he can bang in the post for 10 - 15 minutes a game.  He is a very physical player 7’0, 270 lbs, 7’5 wingspan. He moves surprisingly well for such a big guy.

I have recently changed my thoughts on Azubuike. If drafted in the 2nd round he could be a lost cost big man who can contribute early in his career. I’m Shaq’s prime he would have been a late lotto pick. With the changes in the NBA bigs in Azubuikes mold have lost their value. With that I think he becomes a value pick who could contribute 15-20 minutes of non crunch time minutes similare to how LAkers use McGee.

I was thinking about how we used Aron Baynes.  He played less then some people may remember.  He averaged 18 minutes a game in 2017-18 and 16 minutes a game in 2018-19. He averaged 6/6 both years. Sure he had some big games and he started to step out for the occasional 3, but he mostly came in to bang hard in the post. That’s how I see Azubuike. That and 6 hard fouls every time we play Philly or Milwaukee.

At the risk of contradicting myself (I do this a lot!), maybe we don't go for BPA.  Prioritize team need.  We have two multi-all stars (Tatum and Brown) to build around.  We have solid wings in Hayward and future one in Langford.

What is our team need?

I would say someone perimeter shooting is priority one.  Nesmith would be awesome in that role, probably off the bench. Reminds me of Dale Ellis and Kyle Korver.  Just great at getting open for his shot. His 3 point shooting is unworldly 50 plus percent.  The guy is a 3 point machine.

Vassel also a great option, but he is much less likely to drop to 17.

Our other team need IMO is a PG who can create his shot a/l/a Kemba Walker. I want us to compete for championships for the next 10 years, and Kemba is good for another 2-3 at best before the wheels fall off.  Guys that intrigues me the most is Alabama dude, Kira Lewis.  Hampton also interesting, although I view him more as a 1/2 than a pure PG creator.  Immanuel Quickley also comes up as a possibility as well, although his stock is pretty low right now.  Cole Anthony is intriguing, although he doesn't seem to be much of a play maker.  Hayes' stock too high, so I've written him off as realistic.  The other French kid, Maledon, is intriguing to me. Grant Riller from Charleston may have the quickest first step in college. Should be available with 30th pick.

Curious to hear others that you guys may recommend.

Danny may try hard to trade up, given lack of roster spots, particularly if one of his guys is available.  The 26th pick could be worth a move up one or two slots.  Not sure if throwing in the 30th pick gives you much more movement up.  If he doesn't feel like the guy he wants is a pick or two ahead of where he is drafting, then he may have to trade out of the draft, into next year's.   Would be subject to protections, which could mean it would role over for another 2-3 years.  Which to me doesn't make sense for a team that wants to compete for championships starting now.

This is going to be a very interesting draft for the Celtics.

This is going to be a very interesting draft for the Celtics.

I think we need to draft a big man.  I can see us using the 26th pick on a big.  I like Jalen Smith and Daniel Oturu there.

Nesmith  is not  a good defender.  I would go with Saddiq Bey.  He shot 45% from 3 and is a lockdown defender that can switch and defend multiple positions.  He's also 6'8 with a 7'0 wingspan.  Brad would find minutes for him.

A PG who can create his shot, I like Payton Pritchard and he can be had at 30.  These guards come to college flash potential and achieve nothing in their one year and the draft pundits fawn over them.  More often than not they don't live up to the hype, <cough> Fultz.  Pritchard is a stud player but he is a sr. and not an athletic freak so he is so overlooked in this draft.   Here are Pritchard's awards/honors:

CAREER
The first player in Pac-12 history to have 1,900 career points, 500 career rebounds and 600 career assists.
Oregon’s career assists record with 659, which ranks ninth in Pac-12 history.

HS final year at 315 pounds

I think he’ll probably go undrafted.  If I’m looking for a big at 46 I’d be interested in  Udoka Azubuike   He’s not going to shoot the three but he can bang in the post for 10 - 15 minutes a game.  He is a very physical player 7’0, 270 lbs, 7’5 wingspan. He moves surprisingly well for such a big guy.

Azubuike highlights:

I agree Baynes and now Kanter fill a clear role as the rotations + sized physical big man. This has been a sub 20mpg role on the Celtics for the past 3 seasons. Azubiuke would bring a different dynamic to the role with his explosive finishing at the rim and immense length. If expected to be 25+ mpg big he will fail but in this reduced role (same role Cs are trying to develop Tacko for) I think he could be a steal

on pritchard, thanks for bringing him into the thread. i looked at some videos and read a bit about him. so what i write here is based on a tiny bit of evidence. having said that...

on the plus side, he seems very smart. works really hard. had a very good 3 pt%. he also seems to make his team better and doesnt play only for himself.

on the non-plus side. he is 22 years old. he is 6'2". he is not very athletic. in college his level of athleticism works well. but as i watched him drive to the basket i thought "nba defenders wont let that work for him."

tankathon has him ranked in the second round, which seems about right. he seemed, to me, to be the sort of player that is a long shot in the nba, but you would love the way he plays and cheer him on.

then again, under CBS, he might find a solid role on the celtics.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

We already have a Pritchard-type player in Edwards. Pritchard is better at running the point but Edwards is every-bit the shooter, even though he hit a cold streak early and never really rebounded. We also have Waters at PG who is developing his shot and is much more scarier on D.
Anyways, Pritchard is a second round prospect and I highly doubt DA drafts him as early as 30th. We have other needs and I think there are better players to be had. I would even pass on him at 46 but that's just me and I'm not saying he won't go that high.
