Stephen A. Smith kinda nailed it when he criticized Danny Ainge on First Take.
"The reality is that no player will come to Boston to play for Danny Ainge." The guy traded Perk, PP34, KG, Rondo, IT4. He about to lose Irving and Horford. He wasted a lot of time courting Anthony Davis who had zero interest in suiting up a game for the Celtics.
Steven A isn't the most stable guy to use for a source in an argument.
PErk was a bad one, but he was trying to go younger and when a championship and thought Shaq would hold up and that Green had more heart. (see what I did there)
PP and KG were no brainers. They were on their way out, and he put them in a position to win a title that the C's couldn't be in. Not his fault the Nets hired Kid as a coach. And that package was a killer package. Think, the Nets right now could have Brown and Tatum.
Rondo was a pain in the butt, bouncing on the team for a birthday party, and just clashed with Stevens and not part of the rebuild. Simple.
IT4 was a tough one like Perk, heart of the team, but that injury isn't one you come back 100%, and he's barley played since. So even if Irving leaves you don't lose that much in an attempt get better.
Horford might be leaving because DA doesn't have a clear path right now to being a contender, and doesn't want to tie up cap with the extra year. And I'm sure it was a 2 year, 3rd team option, and that didn't go well, but it's also smart. And if the Mavs snag Horford, then it was more about money than it was ring chasing.
DA put the C's in a position to have Irving/Hayward/Tatum/Horford/AD next season. It didn't work out, but out side the LAkers who went all in on tanking to get a high pick, no one else could offer a good package, and also compete at the same time. Some times things don't work out that aren't in your control.
