Basketball is such a strange game.  It's so common for teams to have a really bad 1st quarter, and then flip the script on their opponent in the 2nd quarter.

Playing so much better in the 2nd.

Nice 11-3 run to close out the half. Our best basketball is very, very good.

Arguably our best defensive quarter in a month. We gave them very few open shots.

Wild 2nd quarter. The defense ignited the offense.

The last ~8 minutes were very good basketball.  Great looks on offense, very solid defense, a few nice effort plays.  Love seeing stretches like that.

the defensive intensity has been incredible.

The Garden crowd really revs up this team! The energy has been amazing in the second quarter!

I wish they could start games like they played that second quarter. Night and day. Like Kemba just said, the slow starts are killing them and they need to start games more focused. How will that change? What's the solution?

Second quarter stats:

Celtics scored 32 points
Heat scored 16 points

I can't seem to find any other stats that matter more than that one.

They finally realized in the 2nd quarter that Smart was not going to come out and turn up the defense for them.

I don't know about that. Let's face it, Smart has been on the floor a whole bunch in the first quarter where the Celtics defense has struggled. Just seems like a team thing...coming out without energy, intensity or a good shooting stroke. It's kinda everyone doing it....including Smart.

Theis

17 minutes (only Walker has more)
6 points (only Walker, Brown and Tatum have more)
5 rebounds (tied with Semi)
2 blocks (leads team)
+13 (Semi leads with +16)

He's been the "Berlin wall" tonight.

Heat acting coach in Locker room..."Who's this German guy playing center? He's shutting us down! There are guys working as ushers tonight who are taller than this German guy!"
