Trade Idea: Rudy Fernandez

 An NBA executive told the New York Times that the Blazers and Knicks are discussing a trade for Rudy Fernandez.

The Knicks would most likely part with either Wilson Chandler or Toney Douglas in such a deal.

Another league executive said Fernandez is available but the Blazers are hoping to receive a draft pick in return. The Knicks currently do not have a first-round pick in Thursday's draft.

Can't be done. We'd need to send out a player to make the contract numbers work.

Davis doesn't work. We could send out Sheed and #19, in exchange for Rudy and Martell Webster.

He's the perfect compliment to Rondo.  Our backcourt D would be astounding with the two of them.  He's not as lights out as Ray but who is?  He's young and has not logged many minutes.

This is true, but Pritchard is on the way out in Portland.

If Paul Allen isn't keen on Rudy, maybe he forces Pritchard's hand here.

How stupid, huh?  Pritchard is one of the best GMs in the league, especially when it comes to the draft, yet he's getting the boot in Portland after building a pretty solid team there.

They would have been one of the top 3 teams in the Western Conference by now if not for all of their injury issues (which aren't really KP's fault).

Update: Jason Quick, beat writer for the Blazers, says that Portland has received "better offers" than what the Knicks are prepared to give up in exchange for Rudy.

It's been reported that Portland wants a draft pick in return. New York has none.

Again, the problem is the Cs don't have the right salary to send back, unless you send Sheed, and take something else back from Portland.

I like the idea.  Rudy might be an ok replacement when Ray walks.

I like the idea of Rudy coming to Boston, he's still young. Aspects of his game will improve to mold into a better fit with the Celts' system
