Title: Maine Red Claws to the playoffs depends on the last game of the season
Post by: Nowee on April 06, 2013, 05:28:18 AM
The Red Claws beat the BayHawks 110 - 99 last night. That win eliminated the BayHawks from the playoffs. The Red Claws now have a 3 game winning streak and the 8th seed.

If the Red Claws beat the BayHawks again tonight at there court, the grab the 8th and final seed. If they don't, and Skyforce drops Iowa, the Skyforce clinch the 8th seed. The Skyforce have a 1 game losing streak and Iowa has a 2 game winning streak and plays at home.

If the Red Claws win and the Tulsa 66ers lose (3 game losing streak) the Red Claws will have the 7th seed.

I hope the Red Claws make the playoffs so that it can help Fab Melo get better because of more games!

Tonight at 7:00 PM ET

He needs it.  He has shown some improvement as the year goes on.

10 PPG   6 RPG  3.2 BPG   But he has a ways to go yet.

I would perfectly happy if Fab could averages those numbers for the celts someday. Not too high of expectations in my eyes.

Those are Montross Celtics' numbers with more blocks.  Those would be solid numbers if he improves his positioning defensively.

Hopefully he gets some playoff minutes since he missed the NCAA tourney experience last year.

I expect the Red Claws to make the D-league Playoffs tonight. *knock on wood*

I hope that in the playoffs Fab Melo plays like the first half of the Red Claws season or better. His last chance to shine before training camp next season.

So it has come to this, Montross is a Celtic Great?

Montross numbers were against NBA talent not NBADL, I hardly think he is a barometer for a good player or worthy NBA talent.   He was a fringe player who didn't last long in the league, this doesn't strengthen your point, if your implying Melo is NBA level.

lol....Montross was a pretty servicable player his rookie year.  I wasn't implying anything beyond their numbers being similar.  Melo is far more raw with a far bigger upside.  He also has the opportunity to play with far better players and for a better coach than Montross did.

Melo's looks slow and misses a open dunk. Ow boy.

10/6/3 that's it? With his size and athleticism he should be dominant down there. Danny might have really blown it with the Melo pick.

And as I speak the Red Claws somehow manage to lose a 15(?) point lead. Melo's stats aren't great but his impact on D is carrying this team.

For a 22nd pick, I'd be happy if Melo's current production transfers. 10/6 and a massive defensive presence.

It hasn't thus far, playing against DL is one thing, here are his NBA stats:

 0.2 RPG    0.4 BPG   1 PPG

*16 point lead

Let's hope the Red Claws win and go to the playoffs by themselves.

Iowa is doing there part with a 9 point lead if the red Claws lose.

Nicely done Claws.  ::)

Erie up by 1 with 11 seconds left...

Maine gave away a wide open three pointer. And the guy made his first three pointer of the season   :-\

Final:
Erie 108 - 105 Celtics or Maine

Fab Melo:
19 minutes
2/5 FG
0 FT
3 OR
3 DR
2 BS

Another great Celtics game!

Iowa up by 15 in the thirth.

If the win then the Red Claws will go to the playoffs despite losing.

Maybe Fab Melo is like playoff Rondo? ...

Just under 4 to go for Iowa. Iowa leads but it's down to a 5 point lead.

He did not play 19 minutes because of a injury. Other guys just played better and got more minutes.

He missed a open dunk and looked slow. The 6 rebounds did he get by being tall and not by working hard.

There's like two players in the entire D-league who are legit 7 footers... Melo is one of them.  10/6/3 is pretty dreadful.

There's about 91 players in the D-League putting up better stats than that.

http://www.nba.com/dleague/statistics/player/Efficiency.jsp?season=22012&league=20&conf=OVERALL&splitScope=GAME&qualified=N&position=0&splitType=9&yearsExp=-1&splitDD=All+Teams&pager.offset=0

Luke Harongody (the poor man's Brian Scalabrine) is averaging 20 and 12.   The LeBron James of the D-League, Chris Douglas-Roberts, got called up by Dallas... played a total of 6 games where he averaged 3 points and then got cut.

I doubt we'll see much of Fab Melo in the future.  Dude will get included as trade filler or we'll allow his contract to expire.  He'll probably be playing in Europe in a year or two.

Agreed.  He's destined for the 3J treatment.

I bet the some of the guys ahead of him play around that time too.

Point is, he isn't even remotely dominant in the DL.   He always was a gamble, as he was a mediocre college player at best.

Melo can't play more minutes because he most likely would foul out.

I was hoping Fab could develop sooner.  He seems to be headed backwards.
