Breaking: James Harden signs a 4-year, $228 million contract extension with the Houston Rockets through the 2022-23 season. (via Adrian Wojnarkowski)

Hold his beer, Steph Curry.
So that averages 57 millions year. That is like over 50% of the cap.

The report is being worded poorly. He'll make $228M over the next six years.

even at 6 years that is crazy money.  when I first read it in this blog, I thought someone was joking.  I guess not.  (head spinning)
They are adding numbers together. He had 2 years for $59MM left on his current deal with one year being a player option. This next extension makes the 19-20 option guaranteed. The actual extension is 4/170. Which is about $42MM a year. A little more than Curry got

espn  is reporting that wrong $228 m number To be overdramatic and get views

Luxury tax avoidance.  They were far over the tax line.

Like the Bradley trade, some trades have to be made to avoid major luxury tax penalties when you sign players to big contracts.

That's an interesting move. I love how Miles fits in Toronto, who desperately needed some more outside shooting. Will he start at the 3 for them, or will he come off the bench behind Powell?

Then again, losing Joseph could hurt, especially with as injury prone as Lowry has been.

Fortunately we'll have 2017-18 to watch him play with the new team before deciding.  Many questions that remain re: his value to the Cs should be answered (injury, defensive liability on a very good team, sharing offensive go-to role, distributing to other weapons).    Perfect opportunity for him to prove his max value to this team.

Do they have a backup to Lowry now? You have to think that if they are willing to make this move then they must have someone lined up in FA. Rose perhaps? Ty Lawson?

Seems about right.

Well they were clearly the biggest losers in the Jose Caulderon derby

Delon Wright has been decent.  Entering his 3rd year, and at age 25, he should be capable of a larger role, especially if DeRozan is on the court with him.  I assume that's their plan, similar to what we're looking for from Rozier now that Bradley was traded.  Mid-to-late first round picks might not always have immediate impacts, and they may never become stars, but if they can give you rotational minutes on inexpensive contracts for 2-3 seasons, they can provide you the salary flexibility to fill other holes on your roster with more expensive veterans.
