Is Otto Porter the new Jeff Green?

Jeff Green never had a season 75% as good as what Porter just had, nor showed the year-to-year improvement the Porter has throughout his career.  Yes, the deal bets that a player who's 24 will continue to improve, but many players do improve from that age, and this one improved significantly every season so far.

Their similarities end at body type and alma mater.

Jeff Green Career 13.5 pts 4.7 rebounds 33 % 3pt

Otto Porter Career 9.3 pts 4.4rebounds 38% 3pt

He said "season."

Jeff Green 2008-2009 season  16.5 pts 6.7 rbs .38 3 point
Otto Porter 2016-2017 13.4 pts 6.4 rbs 43 % 3 point shooting

If you're stuck on points and rebounds per game as your metric, I'm not going to debate any further.

Post your metrics.

Looks like Otto Porter has signed a max 4/106 offer sheet with the Kings.

I know it's unrealistic at this point, but that would be pretty sweet if Washington let him go and didn't match. That'd really help us with both the LA and Brooklyn picks, and it'd help an Eastern rival get significantly worse.

How do you get a max contract averaging 13.4 points and 6.4 rebounds? That's ludicrous!

Do it at the age of 23-24, and with the best efficiency in the league for your position.

$26.5 million per year still seems a bit steep, but that's the market.

It's also why people who think Oladipo is ridiculously overpaid are off-base.

Ridiculously overpaid? Maybe not, considering 4-6 other dumb contracts last year. Overpaid? Absolutely. And it makes Indiana's ridiculously poor haul for George that much more egregious.

Why do we care about underpaid/paid/overpaid?  Why is everyone obsessed about contracts?

Is Otto Porter good? YES.  Is he healthy? YES.  All you need to know.

We care because it's fun to talk about but also because these contracts don't exist in a vacuum.  What Porter gets affects both practically and in expectations what IT, Bradley and Smart will get.  The more other teams overpay, the more we have to overpay just to get players' attention.

I would bet money that Evan Turner wanted to stay in Boston.  This was the first place in his NBA career where he was successful and appreciated.  And I'm sure that as much as we wanted to preserve future cap space, there had to be at least some desire by Ainge and Stevens to keep him.  But none of that mattered because Portland came in with an insane offer for a guy who didn't even fit with what their team really needed.

Because you can only spend so much per team ( they can go over in certain situations but there's also luxury taxes etc...)  so contracts matter.

Bobby Marks tweeted something relevant to those here looking for a PF:

Quote
Good market of PF in Denver for a team in need of a big. With the Millsap signing, Denver now has 6 power forwards.

He's counting Jokic, presumably, but:
Jokic
Millsap
Faried
Arthur
Lyles
Hernangomez

Hernangomez is the name to watch for -- after the draft last year, the Nuggets GM said that was the guy Ainge was trying to trade up from #16 to get (he went #15).

If we'd get Hayward, I actually like the fit of Faried at the 4 for us. He's athletic, a great rebounder, and a decent defender from what I remember. He's not a perfect fit with his lack of spreading the floor, but at this point he'd be our best option if we're looking to get an actual starting caliber 4.

He'd come really cheap, too. It'd just be the salary needed to get him here, which would certainly include AB plus a bit more salary.
