PJ Tucker to the Rockets for 4 years/32M
I don't like it. 32 years old and already slowing down.

2 years would be fine for a good backup SF but 4 years is too long. Bad contract.

Nice pickup. One guy you want on your side in a fight.

The West has pooped on the East for years now, yet their teams continue to get stronger and stronger.WTH man?!

The East seems to just have the dumber GMs.    I mean, the Toronto guy is supposed to be one of the best and how much did he give away to rent PJ Tucker?  What if Ibaka signs somewhere else?

Mike

Masai Ujiri (the Toronto guy) offered Tucker significantly more money. It's not his fault that Tucker left.

Aren't the Canadian taxes pretty steep? And Houston with no income tax and better team.

This is not difficult to understand.  Teams that are stronger are cashing in and are also more attractive destinations for free agents.  Then there's the 'LeBron factor' in the East too where both teams and players don't think they have a shot at the Finals.  This will even out if GS wins again and keeps their team together.

He gave away two second rounders and Jared Sullinger.  Talk about mortgaging the future, eh?

How is it golden St can afford to resign all of these guys?
Crudely stated, under the new CBA a team can go over the cap to keep their own players. They cannot to sign free agents. Every big player for GS, save Durant, was drafted by them. Hence, they can sign them as long as they are willing to pay.

This is why ainge is accumulating great draft picks. As these players grow, if they pan out the Celtics can pay to keep them.  This is why those posters who whine about "too many picks" are missing the point entirely.

So it is because they have Bird rights on these guys.

Yes, except Durant.  This is why Durant, although he will come to an agreement last, will be the first (or so) signed.  #paperwork.

Completely incorrect.  The Warriors also have a form of Bird rights (oddly called "non-Bird rights" colloquially) that will allow them to go over the cap to sign him and give him up to a 20% raise.  They can sign him last.

You are the sort of gambler Las Vegas loves, the one who doesn't bother to keep track of his "little losses" until he winds up bankrupt.

No, giving up that for PJ Tucker isn't the end of the world.  But if Lowry leaves and they decide to blow it up and trade DeRozen and his huge deal, that 2018 second round pick suddenly becomes a lot more valuable.

And what about the 1st rounder and Terrence Ross they gave up for Ibaka?  They gave up two players, a first and two seconds...for what?  So they could win a meaningless regular season game against Boston?

I don't know the market is crazy. $8m a year for a solid rotation player could end up being a bargain!

The disparity between the West and East right now is just crazy.

Legit playoff contenders in the West:
GS
SA
Houston
OKC
Utah
Portland
Clippers
Memphis
Dallas
Minnesota
Denver
New Orleans

Lakers
Sacramento
Phoenix

The West will be an absolute dogfight next year. 12 out of 15 teams all look to have good shots at the playoffs.
salivating at the chance of cashing in on that Lakers pick next year. If the ping pong balls fall to #2 and the Brooklyn one falls to #1... Lol
Same here but I don't think we'll get the LAL pick unless they sneak into 2 or 3. There are just too many BAD teams in the East now though the only thing that helps is how tough the West is and LAL has to play more a lot more games vs. those team. I also hate it that Atlanta now may be the team that is a bottom feeder on the Nets level, as are a few other teams in the East.

Doesn't look like we'll be seeing fireworks this summer.....again. Too bad Milsap is 32 or I'd love to have him sign here, especially if Gordon signs before he leaves Boston today.

Signing the best available FA on the market would be fireworks.

I agree but my point was that we still need a all-star caliber player to compete with Cleveland. Gordon pretty much assures that we're still 2nd best in the East. But that also means that if we stay healthy and the Cavs suffer an injury to one of their top 3 then we'll be the lucky ones to play GSW.

Not sure why ESPN has this in with it's FA update but FWIW:

Quote
Boston Celtics

1. Signed 2016 first-round pick Ante Zizic to a rookie contract
2. Agreed to a reported two-year deal with forward Daniel Theis

In addition to signing this year's No. 3 overall pick, Jayson Tatum, the Celtics also announced the addition of last year's No. 23 pick. (Rookie contracts for first-round picks are among a handful of deals that can be signed during the moratorium.) Zizic ranked ninth in my 2016 consensus draft projections and backed that up with another solid season split between the Adriatic League -- where he dominated -- and playing tougher competition in EuroLeague with Turkish club Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul.

Depending how the offseason goes, Zizic could start at center for Boston this season. He'd probably play limited minutes in that role with Al Horford finishing games in the middle, but Zizic can hold his own. He's an ultra-high-percentage finisher and an excellent offensive rebounder. Defensively, Zizic projects as a below-average shot blocker and rebounder, but not a liability on that end.

The Celtics also agreed to a long-rumored two-year contract with Theis, a combo big whose projections are similar to Zizic's. Theis had FIBA 3-point range but may struggle to shoot accurately from the NBA 3-point line. Though just 6-foot-9, he blocks enough shots to potentially play some center. Besides size, the big difference between the two players is age. Theis is close to maxed out at age 25 where Zizic is just 20 and can be expected to develop into a quality starter.

Not sure how you can be an excellent offensive rebounder, but a below-average defensive rebounder, but this a Kevin Pelton piece and he projects a lot of stuff off of stats.
