Okafor is the best use of the dpe. I would love to see his potential flourish on an actual team. the Sixers are a joke of a franchise. He needs a fresh start.

Can we sign Tim Duncan?  Got any better ideas?

I'm in. And after the season ends, retire his jersey no.

I’d throw a lot of money at Alexey Shved to see if he couldn’t be bought out of the final year of his deal in Russia.  Of people who could potentially be signed as opposed to traded for (in other words, not under an NBA deal) I think he’s the best guy available.

I've seen you talk about him a few times, and he's the anarchy made a basketball player. I think he's the opposed player to Stevens' basket philosophy.

I'd give a shot to Anthony Randolph o Motiejunas if we are talking outside the league.

Anthony Randolph is fun, but my understanding is that he doesn’t have a buyout in his contract until next year (although I guess enough money can make that problem go away).  I have no interest in Motiejunas, who seems both uncoachable and unable to stay healthy.

As far as Shved goes — I don’t love him.  But I’m a little concerned we’re short of ballhandlers when Kyrie is off the court, and even when he is on the court sometimes.  He can do that, generally make the 3, and at 6’6” can play the 2 on defense, allowing him to be on the court when a smaller guard like Kyrie and Rozier are playing.  Between an expensive buyout and a raise on his $3.2 million salary, you could reasonably pay him the full $8.4 million.  If that gets done in the next week, it means he’d be an $8.4 million expiring that could be packaged in a deal at the trade deadline.  My interest in Shved drops once were within 90 days of the trade deadline, as after that point, he’d no longer be eligible to be traded after he signed.

https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/now-that-they-reportedly-have-a-dpe-who-could-the-celtics-sign-to-replace-gordon-hayward/

article with our options, nothing new that hasn't been discussed.. nothing great, and feel our best option is to wait on potential buy out candidates.
From this list though I'd vote a trade for Ilyasova.

I think this is a solid idea.   His D has been poor, but Brad even has Kyrie playing some D.

Maybe I'm crazy, but it just seems like using the DPE to sign a buyout player is a waste of the exception - Boston won't have Bird Rights on them this coming summer, meaning they'd be restricted to the same exceptions they would have been otherwise, there isn't anyone out there who's going to make the C's a title team this season at this point, and you wouldn't be able to turn around and trade that same player this season either. Picking up a spare, expendable mid-sized contract is potentially huge from a roster-building standpoint, and it's something I'd like to see Boston maximize.

RULES OF THE DISABLED PLAYER EXCEPTION

The exception grants us space for players under $8.4mil so I've excluded all players over $8.4mil (e.g. Avery Bradley, Marc Gasol).

The exception can only be used in a trade for a player who is in the last year of his contract, so that excludes anyone who has multiple years left in their contract (e.g. Dragan Bender, Shaun Livingston).

The exception needs to be used by 3/10/17, so I'm excluding all players that we cannot trade for until after that date (i.e. Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder)

I'm going to exclude anyone under 2.6mil because we could trade for them under normal circumstances without using our DPE and it would be a waste to use it.

Any player with a player option for 18-19 needs to waive it for the trade to go through. I believe that team options aren’t a factor in the DPE, but someone could correct me.

Had to give a TP to Celtics Elite.  It's this type of effort from posters that make this blog so great.   Not sure how to begin analyzing the list to whittle down to who I'd want Danny to make a move for, but step one -- who's a possibility? is answered.  Nicely done.

TP to Celtics Elite - Typing Point!

Yeah, can't say any names jumped out there. Maybe start by figuring out what we need?  Veteran SF or stretch big. Cavs would let Frye go for tax savings probably, but his D stinks so not worth the spot.

Like most other assets, my guess is Danny waits patiently. Wouldn't be surprised if he uses it to acquire a pick with the player, desiring the pick more.

I wonder if Danny can take on a salary to help facilitate another team's trade and get a draft pick for doing so? Can the it be used this way if another team needs to shed salary to take on another player in a separate trade?

Can someone speak to the DPE in terms of receiving value to a trade partner?   Does the trade partner get a usable trade exception based on the discrepancy between outgoing and incoming salary?   Since we're only able to trade for expiring contracts, I see little financial benefit to the trade partner.  Is the value to the trading partner solely based on the quality of the human asset (player or pick) we'd be sending?

You can't combine players with the DPE in a trade. In a trade for Parker we would have to include the Lakers' pick, which doesn't make sense anyhow because we can't afford an extension of Parker for the salary he wants.

Waiting for buy outs is probably the best thing.

I still want Gerald Green back, but wouldn't he sign for the minimum salary exception? From the list I would take a flyer on Hezonja or Okafor. For them you don't have to give up much value in picks and they've upside.

Chris Bosh.  Only guy that really makes sense at this point of the season.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip
