Sources: The NBA has granted Boston an $8.4M disabled player exception for the loss of Gordon Hayward for the season. The DPE expires March 10.

TP for the sort of good news.  The exception is nice, but it means league doctors think it more likely than not that we don’t see Hayward back at all this year.

Connor McGregor. That could possibly be a better idea. He could be a good thing in Boston. Kung Fu master?

Seal Team 6 member? Usain Bolt?

Jhalil Okafor? Just kidding.

Anyone think of potential buyout candidates that could pop up near the deadline?

Tim Duncan is always the best idea.  He’s rightfully a Celtic, even at 41.

The fun ideas are trading for either Aaron Gordon or Jabari Parker.  I don’t really think they’re better ideas, but they’re fun.

Will Barton has been thrown around, and I’m on board depending on the acquisition cost.

I’d throw a lot of money at Alexey Shved to see if he couldn’t be bought out of the final year of his deal in Russia.  Of people who could potentially be signed as opposed to traded for (in other words, not under an NBA deal) I think he’s the best guy available.

What about taking a flyer on Dante Exum when he returns from shoulder surgery? Maybe a low risk, high reward type deal?

No.

We can trade for a player on an expiring deal or sign a free agent to a 1 year deal.

Using a disabled player exception on an injured player? That does not sound like a good idea.

Nobody knows what Danny will do, but my best guess - hold onto this until players are waived at the end of the season - then sign whatever looks best for us in time for the playoffs.

Help me understand.  With this exception does it mean Danny can trade for an expiring using the exception as salary -- trade Semi (for example) for a 10M (or so) contract?  Trade a draft pick for a 8-10M contract?

Also, this has to mean that if GH returns, we end up with both Hayward and the new player.  That is, no penalty if Hayward returns this year?

DPE expires on March 10.

Can't trade out players plus exception to take back a bigger salary. It's a pretty hard 8.4 limit. Picks can go out with it I believe, but not players.

So...cool we still have a few random future picks.
