I would love this signing. Looney is a center who knows his role and also knows how to play with other very quality guards/wings. He would slide right in to our line-up at a fraction of the cost of other big men out there. This would be very exciting - would love to lock him up for at least a couple of years, though, or he’ll just leave next season.

I thought he was a weak-point for GSW. They were forced into playing him because they had nothing else.

I don't know why he is getting so much attention.

If he was on a 30 win team instead of the GSW, nobody would be talking about him.

He led Golden State, and all Western Conference players, in net rating during the post-season.  While there is certainly some noise to that statistic, it’s not something you do if you’re a “weak point.”

I guess Timelord is still very far from being confused with an NBA player?

A weak point relative to a healthy Golden State lineup? Sure. But he was better than Bogut, Jordan Bell, and at times Demarcus Cousins even though Looney, himself, was playing through a broken collar bone or some such injury. It's not like Toronto was taking advantage of Looney. He was solid.

He is now 21 and obviously did not show enough to warrant more confidence in his first season as a 20 year old player. It is going to take a few years before we can see what ceiling he has. Not many centers who are not superstars can come into the league as a 20 year old and make an immediate impact. We are not talking about Shaq or a Duncan here. We need to give him time to grow and learn what it takes to be in NBA.

I’d be shocked if Looney doesn’t return to Warriors.

Would rather we get Vonleh before someone else does.

The Warriors have hard-capped themselves with the Russell S&T and probably can afford him at no more than the minimum.  Thus Looney is unexpectedly available.

We just don't know.  Maybe he can become a reliable rotation player in year two.  Either way the Celtics can't be entirely dependent on RWIII in the front court.  They need to find a high IQ big man as a stopgap option.

This.   Looney is free game.  With all of the money being spent I think he's going to be a bargain.  The only two players I'd like the C's to go after on a 3 or 4 year contract are Looney and WCS.  If not then a 2 year deal for Robin Lopez works for me.

Don’t we only have 5m to spend? Don’t other contenders who have the MLE have way more than us?

Just to be clear, we can only offer anyone a two-year deal at this point.  And Robin Lopez is off the board to Milwaukee and his brother.
