To me, any discussion of PED's in Basketball should not be starting with Lebron James.  While he is a prime suspect, to me the two most obvious suspects are Dwight Howard, and our very own Kendrick Perkins.  They both completely transformed their bodies, in a relatively short period of time into pretty much super-human physiques.  I would also throw Rajon Rondo, who has gained a ton of muscle since entering the NBA, into the mix.

And to be honest, I couldn't care less.  Right now, I assume just about everyone is on something.  There are so few natural looking bodies out there anymore.  Even Scalabrine looks like he's been drinking some sort of meat tenderizer.

Until they come up with tests, to actually catch everyone who is juicing, I don't see the point in singling out anyone.

I kinda disagree about likely targets. I'd look at guys coming back from injuries first. Or guys outta the league. Chris Anderson comes to mind, Brendan Haywood, Etan Thomas, or even mr feel good story SHaun Livingston. While Im not making any kind of judgements on the character of these guys, they're the most logical choices.

For HGH maybe, but I would be shocked if some of the monsters in the league like Howard and Perk are not on some sort of steroids.  You simply do not see people built like that without some enhancement.

I am not an expert on what the latest PEDs of choice are, but I do think they are not just used by players coming back from injuries.

Good call on Chris Anderson though.  He fits in the Howard and Perk category as well, with the amount of muscle he has put on.

Not 10 years ago surely, but with kid starting training earlier and smarter, we are really testing the limits of the human body. Probably helps the case though that these guys are using.

But you know what, I like do think basketball is maybe the last 'clean' sport. Don't you go takin that away from me, Chris.

Haha, fair enough.  I just think there are some Celtics who are just as likely to be juicing as Lebron.  Whether they are all on the juice, or all clean, that is not for me to decide.

Some great responses, so far.  TPs doled out accordingly.

My theory is it's either a swollen lymph node or maybe a cyst.

Both of which have increased likelihood from PED use, am I right (see A-Rod's recent hip cyst removed, etc.).

BTW, not using "anything that's banned" is different than using "anything at all".  Love the rhetoric LeRoid uses.
Who cares if he uses it and it isn't banned?

Is it possible for David Stern to knight someone? I don't doubt it.

I hope not...then it won't be long til he runs out of chosen ones and starts knighting Mike Bibby and Michael Finley.

Probably an inhaled version to get the lump in his throat.

Cue up "Lump" by Presidents of the United States of America for Game 3 if we are so fortunate to be in the ECF.   ;D

NOTE: There have been blood tests since 2004 for HGH, disregard the above.

There are already urine tests to detect HGH. The NBA doesn't use them though.

Me too. First, they look like they're using something. Then, the NBA anti-doping policy is just too lax that there's a huge incentive for players to use PEDs.

How reliable is it, though?  That's the reason that the various sports unions (MLB, NFL) have refused to agree to a test for HGH.  Thus far, the owners aren't forcing the issue, and seem to agree.

The urine tests aren't very reliable yet, although I think they'll be very soon.

However, the blood tests are extremely reliable - WADA introduced them in the 2004 Olympics Games, if I'm not mistaken. Why don't the unions agree with blood tests? Nowadays, it's impossible to catch cheaters without blood tests.

We can discuss all the testing we want but the NBAPA will never allow more stringent testing be put into the CBA and the owners really don't care if the players are using PED's and will never ask for more stringent testing. So does it really matter if there is a urine test for HGH or not because I'm convinced ownership could care less if the players are on HGH.

True. As I've started by saying, it's all about the fans. Without public pressure, they simply won't care.
