Nesmith is absolutely improving and it's to be expected.  No summer league, no preseason and limited practices will show incremental improvement.  He has been pressing so much on D and effort it's affected his shot.  He looked the most comfortable against the Cavs.  He was 3-5 on 3pts and yes one was a bank.  The more comfortable he is on D the more shots will start dropping.

Nesmith showed off his shooting stroke against the Cavs.  Way too early to give up on this young man.

It's just that Pritchard coming out of the gates so well and looking such a heady player definitely overshadows Langford and Nesmith.  I'm willing to trade either of those younguns in a trade package for a veteran to improve the team.

I just don't understand what people were expecting from him. Did they think he was going to be a Tyler Herro player right away? Kyle Korver averaged 4ppg his rookie season and hit 1 of 3 3s. Joe Harris averaged 2.7ppg and shot 0.6 of 1.6 from 3. Nesmith has barely played, he didn't play for nearly a year because of Covid and then there's no summer league and an abbreviated training camp, and he's joining a win-now team where his minutes are limited. So when he does get to play, usually in garbage time when he's over-eager to impress, he doesn't look polished and so everyone writes him off. Misses a few shots, looks a bit lost on defense, and the guy's a fail. I'm sure none of us would like to be judged on a body of work that consists of six games. And having Pritchard getting a lot of PT due to Kemba's injury and Teague's ineffectiveness makes it worse for Nesmith because everyone compares him to his peer who was picked lower than him, which I'm sure is adding some pressure as well.

Ultimately the NBA is a results driven organization and the fans are used to instant gratification, immediate production...nobody wants to go through a 2 or 3 year seasoning process with rookies anymore. It's going to be tough on the young man but I think he has a longer rope from his coaching staff and his teammates than he does from the fans, so he'll be ok. At least let's let him get to the season before calling him a fail pick

UPDATE: Should I change the title to “Nesmith is the steal of the draft”?

No because you might have to change it again next week when he starts missing shots again

His D is looking decent also.

Spaz.   He is so awkward.   His only chance is serviceable team defense and a screen 3 point game.  Never be a real starter.   Danny should have got Haliburton

He looked pretty controlled tonight. He made a lot of smart defensive plays and was making the right rotations. I think these past two nights have been good steps for him.

That hustle play to break up Lavine's fastbreak layup was great.

Yeah, I don’t understand that comment either.  I didn’t think he looked out of place, spastic or awkward.

1) using a disparaging term for disabled people has no place on this blog

2) your criticism doesn't even make sense, given Haliburton was taken before our pick

The highlight of tonight’s game was watching Nesmith make strides.

11 and 9 points the last 2 games- that’s double digit scoring baby!

Haliburton was picked #12, 2 ahead of Nesmith.

People need to give Nesmith time - Reggie Miller was a non-factor in his rookie season (he only got minutes because he was playing for a bang average team) and ended up being one of the greatest shooting guards of all time, only behind the obvious GOATs in his position. Obviously I'm not expecting Nesmith to become the second coming of Miller, but it takes time for non-elite prospects to develop.

So, are we still piling dirt on this kid’s grave?

It looks like they are!  Nesmith hadn't played basketball in almost a year due to his foot injury.  Darn, give the kid a chance.

Someone else agrees too:  https://www.forbes.com/sites/chrisgrenham/2021/01/26/aaron-nesmith-is-making-steady-improvements-for-the-boston-celtics/?sh=ff936bd6505e
