So he probably signed for the minimum?

Yep.  Subsidized by the league, so it saves a decent amount of money.

The league subsidizes the contract.  We only pay the contract amount that a guy with two years experience would be making.

Im ok with him signing for the minimum…just not for $2.3m. That way it’s less cost if we have to waive him later on. I’m guessing they looked around at all the other players who cleared waivers and none impressed Stevens and Jabari had nowhere else to go.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

Maybe I should know this already, but are the Celtics in the luxury tax at this point? If so, is there a way for them to get u see the tax line during the season?

There’s an article in celticsblog that says the team saved around $500k from the luxury tax as a result of this move. Perhaps there was an agreement with Jabari that if nobody claimed him off waivers then the Cs would be open to resigning him. The article also says that this new contract would probably be guaranteed by January 10.

Here’s then link:

Good that he's back, I think he has value on this team... lessened some since we got Hernangomez, but still.

Glad Parker's back, he deserves to be here and I legitimately think is a better player than just about anyone else that would be available. If we ever manage to pull off a large consolidation trade for a star player (maybe one that sends out some of Josh Richardson/Romeo/Nesmith/Grant Williams etc.) Parker could find himself looking at a defined role on this team.

I did too. I was disappointed by the news that he was being waived (probably more than I should have been) and now I'm happy to have him "back" (probably more than I should be).

I think this contract is also non-guaranteed.  So the team saves in luxury tax, because of the subsidy, but also retains additional flexibility (with a big asterisk), because now they can waive him on any day and only pay a pro-rated share of the contract, unlike before when they would have owed half of the contract.

The big asterisk is that because Parker will be an Early Bird free agent at the end of the deal, and it’s a 1-year deal, the team can only trade Parker with his consent.

It is interesting how this whole transaction went down.  Any team could have grabbed him and there were plenty of other players released by other teams that we could have taken instead of Parker.  But Parker probably is the best available option and we have him on a non-guaranteed contract.  Really a good deal.

He knows the team, he knows sets, so that is all a big plus.  I am not sure we are going to get anything out of him or not but there is like no risk at all in taking him back on this deal.

I didn’t think you could waive and then resign a player on a friendlier deal. Wasn’t this banned after the Gary Payton Celtics trade?
