It's automatic Marcus Smart becomes the starting PG if Kyrie leaves.

Rozier needs a change of scenery.

The type of free pass Irving gets around here is a joke

He shoots terribly after game 1 vs Bucks.... "well who cares" is his attitude....sick and tired of getting better(shot at CBS)... young guys this young guys that... terrible defense

And folks still back him up?

Lol

The Celtics were 46-22 when Kyrie got hurt in 2018. He most definitely helped lead them towards the playoffs. It's great Rozier performed well when Kyrie got hurt, but the players that lead that team in the playoffs were Horford, Tatum and Brown and Kyrie most definitely lead that team for more than 75% of that regular season.

Literally where are these people that are apparently letting him off the hook? I'm one of his supporters and I was a vocal critic of his disappearing act in the Milwaukee series besides game 1.

It's just a simply observable fact that Rozier is a worse basketball player. In fact, Rozier is one of our worst players

You do remember he had some amazing playoff perfomances right?

He lit up Bledsoe...

This should be plan Z maybe.

Actually no, this shouldn't be any plan. Under no circumstances should Rozier be a Celtic next season

so what is your plan?

can't have Wannamaker start at point

I would be ok with Smart starting at PG but not a fan of his overall game on the offensive end. Not reliable....and too trigger happy with the game on the line
If we lose Kyrie for nothing then I think we should look to the draft - specifically to Darius Garland. I'm not sure if you've seen much of him (he got injured early in the season) but he was the top guard prospect before his injury & before Ja Morant exploded.

I'd like him much more than Rozier. Smart could start in the meantime while Garland learns
Coby White is another interesting prospect at point guard, although it would take some draft pick luck to get him. But yeah, I would take literally over 30 different prospects/players than letting Rozier start next year.

Yeah, a year ago he lit up Eric Bledsoe in home games. In away games throughout the whole playoff run he was worse than Kyrie was against the Bucks except for maybe 2 of them. Yet still, that was a year ago. Irrelevant now.

I like White too. He's got all the NBA tools, but as you say he will sadly likely be gone by the time we're picking.

I'd probably rather bring back Rondo to start than start Rozier.

I'd rather pull Phil Pressey out of Turkey than pay Rozier a significant amount of money.

Hell, I reckon his 60 year-old dad Paul would be better, lol.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Why?

If you thought Kyrie is bad, then why would you want Rozier instead. He's less effective as a scorer with little to no playmaking qualities.

And you want us to PAY this guy?

Hell no. Either grab veteran point guards who won't take shots from our our prospects (DJ Augustin, Rondo, George Hill, etc.) or draft a promising guard that fits the Celtics mold than overpay this low bbiq chucker.

Please.

Stop.

I mean, just no.

Not after this year and finding out he was playing only for himself and his next contract this year and not for the team. He was dismal all year.

I was a big Rozier supporter until this year. I expected more of him. He sucked 95% of the time. He needs to go.

Also, he doesn't want to come back because even without Kyrie, Rozier is a bench player as Smart and Brown would be the starters. Nah, Rozier will sign somewhere where he will start and get to be "the man"(no, not Becky Lynch).

Glad you cleared this up, master.

The Champ Champ would have been upset being compared to a mediocre PG.

Glad to see someone picked that up. I should have known it would be you padawa.

Ok so I said it earlier in the thread but there's a lot of emotional takes here so...

If Irving leaves then it's a no brainer to keep Rozier regardless of long term fit.

Irving leaving doesn't give us cap space, it doesn't enable us to build around youth. It just leaves us without an all star point guard. Danny won't blow it up as he wants to compete now so the obvious thing is to retain assets and utilise them in a larger trade later on.

We know that Rozier isn't the best fit, however we also know that he can play on the big stage too. Similarly to how Tatum gets a pass this year, Rozier should also be given one.

It cannot be emotional decisions that run the franchise, it must be objective. If you want to trade for a superstar later down the line (think Beal for example) then we need someone who can be the salary in that trade. Rozier is the perfect candidate on this roster to fill that space.

Rozier believes he is a top PG and wants big time starter money, I think we will let him walk because we won't want to pay it.
