"Photolithotrophic growth requires light and an inorganic electron donor and is usually associated with the ability to use carbon dioxide as the sole source of carbon, i.e., photoautotrophy.  Many of these organisms require specific growth factors, usually the vitamins B12, biotin, or thiamine, which may be supplied in the very small amounts required, approximately 10^-6 mg/L, by other organisms capable of synthesizing them."

Now you see why I need the Celtics this year.  1st semester grad school is kicking my butt.

Didn't see this before ... Charles Martin Smith in "Never Cry Wolf" ... loved that movie, (and the true story book by Farley Mowat even more). He should have received an award for that role. Great soundtrack by Mark Isham, too.

I remember the first time I watched this (around the time it came out - 1983, I believe). I was totally awestruck by the story. I'll have to go buy it.

Quote
A Cobb County, Georgia man is alive today because of his best friend's heroic act.

Scott Dunn was sick when he fell asleep on his couch next to his 3-and-a-half-year-old boxer, Duncan, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. When he awoke to the dog pawing at him at around 3:30 a.m., Dunn thought Duncan just wanted to go for a walk.

But, when Dunn opened his eyes to a roomful of smoke, he realized something was terribly wrong, according to CBS Atlanta.

"Duncan was covered up with me, and I fell asleep, and the next thing I knew, he was poking at me and barking," Dunn told the AJC. "Normally, that means he needs to go out, but when I woke up, I couldn’t see because there was smoke."

Dunn grabbed his keys and headed for his truck, holding Duncan by the collar. When he reached the vehicle, he found the collar in his hand, but no dog attached to it. Though Dunn wanted to go back into the house to fetch his pooch, he told the AJC his neighbors convinced him not to.

Duncan was found curled up on Dunn's bed after firefighters put out the blaze.

:'( RIP Duncan.  :'(

I was just about to post a thread about this for all our animal, (and especially Boxer), lovers ... if this doesn't touch, (and then break), your heart, nothing will. So sad ... I am a true believer in a Heaven for animals, and this sweet guy is there. Condolences to his owner.
