It would be fun to demoralize the Sixers, but give me Indy.

I think we should play whoever we draw.  Avoiding games is for cowards!   You also get a false sense of how good you are you by beating teams you match up against.  Play through everyone to see what to do for next year.

I think it's obvious the Celts will struggle against teams with quality bigs.

Ainge built this team in 2017, before the freedom of movement rule was implemented.

This Celts team is modeled after the Warriors, positionless basketball.

The Warriors got away with not having a quality big man because they were so aggressive on defense.

Draymond Green held, pushed, grabbed, and bumped the likes of LaMarcus Aldridge.
You can't do that anymore with the implementation of the freedom of movement rule.

Just like GSW, Celts were very aggressive on defense last season.
That's why they reached the east finals even without Kyrie and Hayward.

This season the Celts' weakness of not having a big man who can score inside and rebound consistently is very apparent.

It's very clear the Celts are in need of Anthony Davis.

But that's for next season.

This season I think playing it smart is better than getting eliminated early in the playoffs and Celtic fans getting angry.

And since the Celts more or less can control what seed they will be in, why not take advantage of it.

This is my thinking right here. To be the best, you gotta beat the best.

And being tested only gets them stronger...like the Chicago scare

I said something similar in a different thread 2-3 weeks ago and caught some flak for it.

I wanted Philly, Mil and Tor then GSW in the finals.  I prefer to see the C's play and beat the best - not try to skirt the top teams hoping someone else we match up better with will beat them.

for this thread, Indy would have to stay at #3 with us taking #4 and Philly sliding to #5.
first round, we beat Philly.  Second round, we beat Mil w/o HCA.  ECF, we beat Tor w/o HCA.  Finals, we beat GSW w/o HCA.   we stand on top of the pile having thoroughly beaten the best of the best and no argument over us getting 'lucky' on the way to the title.

Indy as the 4 or 5. Home court for Pacers will not hold up.

Would rather play the Bucks in round 2 and hope Philly can knock off the Raptors

I would agree if the Celts are not a flawed team.

It's obvious the Celts are not the best team in the NBA this season.

So why pretend that the Celts are the best?

Being smart will give the Celtic fans more games to watch.

This current Celts team is a flawed team.

It's built to beat the Warriors, not teams with quality bigs.

The saving grace is that all teams have flaws, there's no such thing as a perfect team. The stronger teams struggle with chemistry and decisions too.

So if they come together like they did against GS, i'm ok with their chances.

The issue is only how bad they want it.

And not only that...no matter how many allstars a team has, only 5 are out there and only one has the ball.

I’m most worried about philly in the first round because I can’t figure out who Kyrie guards.

Reddick will run him off the court and average 20 if we put Ky on him. Can’t hang with Harris, maybe we give him Butler and let Jimmy mid range jumper Philly out of the post season?

Maybe I’m missing something, but it seems to me out of the top 5 teams, we have the weakest defender of all the starting players.

I'd rather we make a run and climb to the 3 seed and face DET/BKN.

I think both PHI/IND are 1st round opponents who are clear cuts above those two. Between those two I don't have a strong preference either.

But ever since the Celts assembled a Big 3 in 2007-08, every team that won a championship usually had multiple All-Stars.

The NBA is a star driven league.

When was the last time a team with only one All-Star won a championship?

Sixers .... either we beat them again, which would be awesome, or if we lose we can say it was to a team with the talent to make the Finals.

Indiana is much less talented than the Sixers, but they play as hard as anybody, are super balanced, really well coached, and have lots of muscle inside.  I think that'd be a tough series that would go 7.  Losing would to the Pacers would result in a much more painful narrative heading into the summer.

Top Priority: Figuring out how to play consistent ball as a team, get our best players the most shots, and perform well on the road.

We're our own worst enemy but have the talent needed to control our own fate.  I'm more focused on us than our opponents.

Seeding: Assuming we aren't a total embarrassment/failure, seeding to me is more important than any 1st round opponent.

While there's a clear order of who I'd prefer to play against, in line with my top priority I'd like to secure the #4 seed, #3 if we can.

Opponent: To answer the question, while I think us figuring ourselves out and getting the #3-4 seed are crucial, I'd like Indy.

If we're #4 we'd get either Indy or Philly with homecourt.  I'd prefer Indy.  They are both top home teams, hence seeding being more important to me.  I'm wary of Detroit like others, but I'm fine playing them if we're a #3 seed, which I don't think we will be.

I would prefer to play Indy first. I think we can beat Philly but I think they are a more dangerous team Embid is heathy.
