Maybe it should be the "politics and religion" area. Or something like that.

Case in point:  At the present moment the open thread on Christianity in the Current Events area is neither open nor is it a current event. Christianity has been going on for thousands of years. At this point it is not an event, and rather than being current it is ongoing.

Perhaps there could be an ongoing events area.

I was also thinking of this earlier today because I was thinking of something I sorta wanted to post (I do not remember what it was) and I thought "Well that's not current at all. It's like 2 years old", but it would have been moved to the current events area I think due to its nature.

Also if you're discussing Christianity you may want to rank Tim Tebow as he is current and an event. I rank him just below Martin Luther King Jr and yet a bit above Billy Graham in importance to Christianity.

It's a catch all to some extent.  Politics, religion, the death of Steve Jobs, stories in the news, etc.  Almost all of it is related to stuff that's currently being discussed, but there are some topics that probably don't meet the strict definition.

On several forums I've managed, it's just called "About Life", and has been turned into a discussion-based sub-forum where wholly different rules are in place.

It extends beyond just politics and religion, though.  It also encompasses stuff that's in the news, etc.

  Politics aren't current events?

We wanted to call it 'crap we think we are mature and rational enough to talk about without Breslin site rules and while maintaining civility, but we probably arent', but unfortunately, it was too long.

True. Like if a business makes a major announcement or there's the whole race stuff that comes up

maybe "The section that makes people mad", but that could be a self fulfilling prophecy

I think we are making great progress, it wasn't long ago that we banned such topics just because they were too inflammatory

I think our community has grown up a lot and I'm proud of everyone involved

This may just be me, but I subtly find this to be one of the most humorous off seasons ever.  So much to laugh about and Redz hasn't even been a huge part of it lately.  There have just been some absolute classics lately
