Okay, Okay, don't beat me up for asking this. I'm bored, and I was thinking after seeing the "What's going on in Cleveland" thread.
But we heard today that Billups is no longer considering a job in Cleveland's FO, and Lebron has not been doing anything to recruit FA's.
It seems the writing is on the wall that he will leave Cleveland after next season (unless they win the Finals, which is unlikely). Kyrie would likely be gone too as a result.
Cleveland is also about to pay a monster luxury tax, and even if they move Shumpert, they can't really improve the team at all without dealing Love too, but that makes it more of a lateral move for them (so they aren't truly improving IMO). They still probably pay a luxury tax as well.
And now the West is STACKED. So Lebron might hesitate to go out West despite what we previously thought (sure, he could team up with CP3 in Houston somehow, or with PG13 in LAL, but the West is very stacked and it won't be an easy road to the Finals at all).
Meanwhile, you have to believe that this 53-win C's team which could get slightly better next season, with the addition of Lebron could steamroll through the East and have a solid chance in the Finals, even against the Warriors.
Would you actually consider it if the team keeps much of it's core, adds some top picks from next year's draft, and could make a run for it with Lebron too? Or is this absurd and should I be banished for even asking this?
-
No. Why would you want to replace Ainge and Brad Stevens for a short-term, balding solution? Off with your head, phantom.

Lebron ain't coming here. He wants the run of wherever he plays and won't get that here.
-
I think this is a legitimate question. Frankly, the way LBJ is behaving, would not be surprised to see him force a trade to another Eastern Conference team. Why not us? This off season has been so unpredictable. LBJ knows the urgency of loading up to beat the GSW.

I certainly wouldn't mind especially if we still keep a good chunk of the young core.

It doesn't work that way. We probably have to trade Rozier, Brown, Tatum, Yabusele, Zizic, Nets '18, Lakers '19, Clippers '19 and Memphis '19 to satisfy Lebron. We'll have to do everything in our power to get LeBron a chance to win another championship asap.
That's a mighty haul by the way. I would actually be curious what you can get for all that...
-
Great poll, I often have wondered how other C's fans felt about this. I voted no, even if it helped us raise our next banner it would be painful to have to cheer him on. He just does not represent 'Celtic pride' to me.
-
I hate Lebron James and I don't think there's a chance in the world that he comes here.
That said, I love championships more than I hate Lebron James. I'd suck it up and take the 2nd greatest player in modern NBA history. Now obviously I'd rather build a contender through other means and beat him myself but you simply can't turn down Lebron James.
-
Hmm, would I want the best basketball player in the world to play for the team I like? Tough call.
-
I think turning down the greatest player of his generation and probably a top 5 player of all time seems like bad idea.

Pretty much where I'm at too haha.
Especially after seeing KD lose to GSW then bolt to them...
Whatever means to win a championship. That's all that matter really.
-
I consider LeBum a cancer.
-
Love chips more than I dislike LeBron. Plus, he is really really good.
-
I doubt he would come to Boston but I would love to have him obviously. I think Irving and Love would be a far more likely target though and both would likely be available if James leaves (and they are still in Cleveland).
-
I voted "no" and I've actually become more of a fan over the years. Lebron's greatness as a basketball player is undeniable; he's been the best for close to a decade. The older he gets, the more he seems to handle his superstardom with charisma, grace, and likeability.
That said, I like rooting against him. I like rooting for "beating Lebron." I've been doing it for a long time, and I don't feel like stopping now. Having him join us would be weird and gross in my sports universe.
He is only human, and despite showing no real visible signs of it, he is getting older. I look forward to the day when our rising stars lay a whooping on the ageing King. Coming soon.
-
Reading these comments and seeing all these folks saying They would Give up the pieces for a Chip.. Not a finals Appearance but a chip. Like not just get there but to win it all.. The confetti an all that jazz.. The Parade.. right..
So with that in mind I am thinking why in the world would anybody want this guy on the team if They wanted Chips.. He doesn't Win Chips - He LOSES Chips.. They want to Put him on the Mountain as the man who has shown up and lost more finals than any other Man (worth talking about)
This mans Record indicates that He ruins you front office, he is a super Diva and HE LOSES them Twice more than he wins them..
This is not Jordan or Even Kobe - this is Lebron.. IS he an outstanding player yes.. The best of his generation, yes. Does he guarantee you a chip.. Heck no.. and He would be older after next year...
NO.
(oh and on top of that he sucks to root for)

When the going gets tough LeBron switches teams. He is a fantastic productive player but I don't think he has an ounce of Celtic Pride in his body. I would never want him on the C's and besides he is a crack shoot in terms of winning finals. He is going down in history as the Jordan of the Jerry Wests of the league.

Still a great player but he is at the point where his career has only to go downhill given his age.

Well.. since there is another thread pretty much asking... vote!

More like a 1-5. (All positionless; All versatile!)
Perfect for Brad's system!

Every day and TWICE on Sundays.
Of course adding the best player in the NBA to this roster - especially with The Haymaker and IT here - would be EPIC.
Forget the particulars about salaries and all that, lol.
If Lebron James fails in CLE next season to beat US or GSW and if he thought that BOSTON would give him his best shot at dethroning GSW we'd be foolish to turn him away.

Not just that, we provide him the easiest route to the Finals.
Cavs are sinking, West is STACKED even besides Golden State.
Maybe he considers Sixers or Bucks? But Boston is best built for him lol.
Houston is another option but I mean.. if they actually add Melo, Lebron would literally have to take an exception to play with them, and honestly that team's defense is a lot worse than Boston's. But it gives them a great chance too.
-
No. He wants the max. He is on the wrong side of 30 and his game will not age well. He can't even win more than a game against Durant and curry anymore. He has lost so many times in the finals
-

Well if he wants max his options are real limited unless he's fine joining a Brooklyn Nets (GOD NO!) or another bad, rebuilding team with lots of cap space.
-
Yes, absolutely. I root against Lebron as hard as anybody, but you absolutely have to try and nab him if you can.
However, if we get him it'll have to be through a trade NOW rather than next summer, given that we'll have no room to add him. And I think a deal could be done.
Lebron is smart. He knows he should stay in the East, and he fills a need for us at the PF position, which I think he should primarily be playing the rest of his career.
Danny needs to talk to his people and try and get him here. I think Lebron would welcome playing here under Brad and staying in the East. And I think they'd ultimately do it, too, because does anyone here really think he's staying next summer anyways? The people that I've talked to in Cleveland all think he's already a goner.

Depends on what the trade pieces would be ???
That's a BIG factor.
-
If you're Ainge, you have to at least make a call to Cleveland. I mean, it sounds like the ship is sinking over there.

So basically, Ainge calls GM Lebron asking if he or Kyrie wants to come to Boston?

The only realistic way to match salary for James is to trade Horford. If James agreed to come to Boston, I'd trade Horford, BKN 18, BOS 18, and LAL 18 for James and that is a pretty nice haul for Cleveland. They could then move Horford to a 3rd team for additional assets and trade Irving and/or Love for other young players and really just start over. I suspect the Cavs would try to dump some other salary in the trades, and I'd probably do it depending on which salary and what other piece they wanted to match salary (like James and Smith for Horford, Smart, Crowder, BKN, LAL).
EDIT: I'd certainly want to talk to James before making the trade though. Maybe get him to at least opt in to that final year so you have 2 years with him instead of 1 guaranteed.
-
For the minimum.
-
I dunno. I guess I'd take a meeting with him if he bought lunch.
-
If you're Ainge, you have to at least make a call to Cleveland. I mean, it sounds like the ship is sinking over there.
Yep, and someone as influential as Lebron would hold all of the leverage, too, and he would probably assure that the trade package wasn't overly heavy for him, which would just hurt the team he's going to.

And apparently he has a no trade clause, too, which I did not know. So, yeah, Lebron could easily force his way to the C's for a decent price if he wanted to.
-
Would Ainge and Stevens really want to deal with a guy who thinks he's the Head Coach, GM, and #1 player all wrapped into one?
-
im down
trade Semi, IT and Nader
Thank ya Cleveland.
-
Lebron will put NO ...ZErO superhuman enegy into Cavs this season . He has been saving and conserving his body ...ie ....coasting for years until playoffs .
He will not expend precious muscle , joint, ligament , abuse .....till he arrives at his next team.
I think.....Lebron asks to be traded before the year is out.
-
I bet Cavs would trade Lebron for Tatum , and couple picks ..? ;D
-
BUMP.
I think we can bring this back instead of starting a new one.
We've heard the Warriors rumor and that he may be interested in the Spurs, Lakers or Heat as well. Should Ainge make a call of interest? See if Irving and James could resolve differences lol?
Bring him here on MLE and let him sign a Dunkin Donuts contract and other contracts to make it worth a max
-
No thanks.
-
In a vacuum, of course you would want Lebron on the C's. He is the greatest player of this generation. But there is not going to be a way to add Lebron to the C's that doesn't ruin the roster. We are constructed to contend for YEARS to come. I don't think most of us would want to give that up for a 1-year window with Lebron.
If he would play for the MLE or whatever we have available, sure. Haha, good luck with that.

Yeah, it's going to be interesting this upcoming summer, because most of the rumored teams will also have to gut part of their roster and dump some bad contracts to even fit LBJ in if he wants a max deal. Only the Lakers I believe can afford to add him with max, BUT that will require dealing away at least one of Randle/Clarkson, Nance, and maybe a few more end-of-bench guys (depth).
Houston tried dumping Anderson to get Carmelo, but couldn't, and I think SA initially explored dealing away Aldridge or Gasol to try and bring in someone like Irving, but they couldn't either, so it's not as easy. Do-able, but not easy.
-
he wouldn't come here, he'd still have to work if he came here.
history shows this guy sees adversity and pretty much runs the other way.
-
Never.
-
I answered "yes" in the thread earlier - prior to us getting Kyrie.
Now that we know many of the particulars to him allowing himself to be traded to BOS I'd be hesitant to answering "Yes" to the thread.
I thought Kyrie left CLE to escape LeBron's shadow....
Now that this is Kyrie's team if I were Brad and Danny I'd talk to Kryie about this 1st.
My initial guess would be that Kyrie would be more open to LeBron joining him in BOS "IF" he'd already won a Banner here, Banner 18 - with him getting NBA Finals MVP.
If Kyrie could do THIS? This year? Without GH? Wow he'd be a bonafide "Alpha" in this league...a solid top 5 player.
Once egos are placated with such an accomplishment I'd think that Kyrie would THEN welcome LeBron with open arms.
-
If he begged... yes, I'd entertain it.
-
I want us to BEAT him, not BE him.
-
No. No. No. I don't want Lebron. He's a great player, but every title he wins becomes a Lebron title, not a team title. I root for the Celtics, not for one player on the Celtics. I actually like this team, I don't want to ruin it by bringing in a petulant child like Lebron. Let's go out and beat him. lastly, he isn't coming here anyway as thete.no feasible way to make the cap space nessecary. Plus I am fairly certain he hates the Celtics.
-
So Kyrie on the Jimmy Kimmel show said "it's always possible" that Kyrie could play alongside Lebron again at some point in his career.
That led quite a few to speculate whether Lebron could come to Boston... :P
-

If he said it's not possible, the follow up question would immediately be why not. It's often best to answer a question in a way that won't invite a follow up. He answered it the right way.
-
Head. Yes
Heart. No
-
The problem with LeBron is ultimately it's all about him. In that respect he'd be the anti-Celtic. You could bring him here, I'd sure he'd pay lip service to the Celtics tradition etc - ultimately I don't think they'd win a title with him.
-
I hate LeBron. Greatest player of our generation, but man one of the most selfish prima donna athletes I have ever seen.... I wouldn't want him anywhere near this team. He would not only destroy chemistry, but he would just create an environment that is just too toxic. His ego just won't allow him to co-exist with Irving on the same floor either.
-
I want us to BEAT him, not BE him.
Yup
I would get far greater enjoyment from beating him in the process of winning a title.
Never mind the fact that for Boston to acquire him we'd somehow have to dump a ton of salary. And the problem with that is we don't exactly have any bad contracts to dump in order to free up cap space, we'd have to get rid of really good players.
-
Summer of 2187
-
We spent the past decade trying to beat him. At this point we need to beat him
-
I generally like ALL of the players....except maybe Traitor Ray and definitely hate LeBUM.
