CBS and Smart after the game yesterday, basically state the team must stop taking shortcuts on defense...

Kyrie = shrug....  up to him,  that's his opinion, I respect it etc.

not hatin... just stating the facts

Whats up with these comments?

  • Let's Go Celtics!
This is a misrepresentation - specifically regarding Marcus Smart. Smart said the team is not together right now. A reporter asked Kyrie his thoughts on that quote, Kyrie responded that that's Marcus' opinion and he respects it.

@AdamHimmelsbach
Quote
After Kyrie answered a couple of questions from Jason Terry with regular answers, he took four more questions from the rest of the media and responded with a total of 20 words.  Didn't seem overly upset, but definitely short.

Quote
Kyrie wasn’t too talkative with us tonight. On how to fix taking defensive shortcuts: “I don’t know. It’s up to Brad.”

On Marcus Smart’s diagnosis that the Celtics aren’t playing together: “I mean, that’s Marcus’s opinion. I respect it.”

Is it Kyrie’s opinion too? *Silence*

I think this thread is one of the reasons he's keeping his commentary short. No matter what he says, someone's going to project their agenda on to it.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

Morris' response to said shortcuts: " Next Question."

Indeed, another shortcut.

Maybe it’s the defensive philosophy and always switching in the pick and rolls.

Perhaps we need to play more man and mix it with zone.

Like I stated on another thread just sec ago

It has not only become Irving vs youth incompatibility/locker room problems

but feels like it is CBS and Irving incompatibility as well

Irving wants a more traditional setup with a guy like RW on the court to clean up any defensive miscues

CBS wants his space and pace instead

He’s tired of speaking to the media it looks like, he was happy to speak to Jason Terry who was the Players Only reporter, gave him long answers. Once the other local media started asking him questions he started answering in monosyllables.

I guess those of us who wanted him to stop talking might have gotten our wish  ;D

EDIT here's the full interview, it's not long since he didn't feel like talking once he was done with Terry

Where did Kyrie say he wants Robert Williams on the court more? I must have missed that quote.

If Kyrie said that then maybe he's not as bad as I thought.

They shoulda went man and zone with R Will when they were 10-10

That system is what keeps them out of position and a step behind the ball.

Again, KyMe is a bad fit for a Stevens system...that's the elephant in the room. KyMe will be good in NY.

This is like putting Barry Sanders in an offense run by Tom Brady.

Here's the full Kyrie interview, it's only a couple of minutes long. He's voluble while talking to Jason Terry then when the local media start asking him questions he starts being monosyllabic.

I wonder these days what conversations between CBS and Irving sound like

CBS: Kyrie may I talk to you. blah blah blah
Irving:  ok sure, yup yup yup

Kyrie doesn't seem like he cares anymore

Look before folks think I'am hatin on Irving.... the guy learned the worst from Lebum.  Lebron got coaches fired, players traded. Basically built teams for his comfort to get the best out of what he thought was his abilities

Hypothetically.... Who should Danny choose ....  Irving or CBS/youth for the long run?

That rotating defensive scheme is the elephant in the room, really.

It's a gimmic and used to be only used as an adjustment to give a team a different look from time to time.

I have no idea why he felt that would work fulltime in the NBA.

You have to have different schemes to fall back on, and that's why teams go on runs because they find an adjustment. Brad has nothing else to adjust to.

From day 1 Brad had tunnel vision with it and never changed. It's so easy to anticipate that even scrubs are now exploiting it.

Oh, I've been saying Ainge needs to break off this engagement and stick with the youngins. Forget AD and let Tatum blossom into your star. In 2 years he will be an All Star and Brown will be also. Kyrie will be in NY wondering how he left a storied franchise for the lights of NY.

Keep the picks and let this team grow together with Hayward and Horford leading them.
