After last night's game and the good free throw shooting for the Cs, I decided to look at home vs road free throw percentages for this season and last season.  This season the Cs are shooting as a team 80.4%(8th in the league); last season the team shot 81.2% (4th in the league). Philadelphia leads the league this year at 83.8% and led last year at 84%.

Minn game: 30/31 (96.7%); JB 13/13; JT 13/14
Pacers loss: 20/29 (68.9%); JB 3/5; JT didn't play
Pacers win: 10/19 (52.6%); JB 4/8; JT 2/4

Celtics 23/24: home/road- 84.3%/76.8%.  This difference is the largest in the NBA this season.
Celtics 22/23: home/road - 81.2%/81.1%

For a comparison to Philadelphia:
Philly 23/24: home/road - 85.3%/82.2%
Philly 22/23: home/road - 84.5%/83.5%

I don't know why home cooking is making such a large difference this year but it is substantially greater than any other team in the league.

How is our home free throw defense?  Do opposing teams shoot worse here than they do elsewhere?

According to ESPN, opponents make 76.9% of their free throws in Boston (3rd lowest percentage in the league) Lowest percent is Minnesota at 76.6%.  Also, Boston allows the fewest free throws per game in the league at 14.3/game.  Last year Boston allowed 16.2/game which was 3rd best in the league.

The answer is there is no good reason. Its random chance. It will probably stabilize more towards even as the season progresses.
