No, I am not kidding. Surely he won't as a player but as an overall contributor, for sure, in my opinion.

As a college player he had an elite career. 21/4.6/4.6 over 4 years and Wooden Award winner as best college player.

As an NBA player, he was one of the very first NBA players to make the three pointer a weapon. 2x NBAChamp, 1x All-Star

As a coach he won over 60% of his games in 4 seasons.

As a GM, he has been elite at his job for over a decade. 1x Executive of the year. 1x NBA Champ

At some point this all adds up and he gets in, right? Maybe not until he finally retires but I hope he gets it before he passes. I think he is deserving....as an overall contributor.

Man, I forgot he coached the Suns for a bit. He's thrived on every level he's been on. With how low the bar is for basketball HOF, I think he deserves it.

I was watching an old Suns game the other day with Ainge coaching. I forget how good a coach he was. How creative he was with lineups. Those were some fun Suns teams.

Anyways, the question, yeah I reckon Ainge is already there. He is the best GM in the league post Jerry West. He has built multiple teams. This is his 2nd title contender. Throw in the coaching, the playing career, the college career. The clutch play. The versatility. The respect he had from opponents.

Edit: And if not there already - he will be there soon (next couple of years) as this current group continues to establish its credentials as a title contender. Only a matter of time.

Do general managers have to retire? Or is front office personnel not considered for the hall, only coaches and players?

I don't see Danny getting in. He's not making as a player or coach and he doesn't seem to match up well in the contributor category,.

He was nowhere near a Hall of Fame player.  He had a very short stint as a successful coach but so have many others.  His best work has been as a GM and President, but you have to be a serial champion if that is your only claim.  He needs more NBA Finals appearances for sure.  I think at least 3 more NBA Finals gets him in.

It's an interesting argument-whether a person who has been good to very good (but not excellent) at four different levels deserves to be in the HOF. It's as if one could assign a great player a number, like 10; would you assign Ainge a 3 for all 4 levels thus giving him a 12?

I would say around the time we started talking about Grant Williams shooting. That was about a month ago.

Ainge should making the hall of fame is more acceptable than all this praise for a probable rapist. ( if you studied the case you prob believe strongly he raped her). League is disgusting right now.

Bringing up Kobe - at this point - has no bearing on the thread, my friend.

As for Danny? YES - he should be in the HOF for what he's done...if not now then soon.

I'm not sure how these things would work, though....so if Danny gets in for GM work, then why not Masai Ujiri?

Don't try and derail this thread with an issue you have with someone who is not even alive, who is also unequivocally a top-3 SG of all-time.

I think you could make the case for him certainly right now, but he won't get in for another ten years maybe 20. Just how they tend to approach putting contributors/coaches in more when they are in their 70/80s

His case will be better by then given how good he's been so far.

I think the conversation will get real if this squad wins multiple championships.
