Got an email from TM saying that they need a W-9 on file to complete a 1099-K (reportable third-party transactions) for every reseller. Makes no sense to me, since the K is only required for >200 transactions and 20,000 in proceeds. Can’t imagine many of us cross that threshold.

Mike

NOTE: JUST HEARD FROM MY REP. THIS IS A PHISHING EMAIL. IF YOU GET IT, SHE SAYS TO SHOOT IT.

I looked this up, and it may not be phishing, as Massachusetts has a lower threshold.  From the StubHub website:

“Additionally, starting in 2017, the states of Massachusetts and Vermont now require a 1099-K be issued for all sellers in Massachusetts and Vermont who have at least $600 in gross sales in a calendar year.

We’ll automatically request your Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) when you approach the applicable 1099-K reporting thresholds for your location.

Interesting, thanks. Here's the response I got from my rep:

"Hi Mike,

Thank you for reaching out about this. This is a spam / fishing email, so please feel free to disregard and delete it from your inbox.

We are in communication now with Ticketmaster and are hoping to have it resolved shortly.

Have a nice weekend!

Emily
