I think he's unlikely to put it together at this point, but if he does... look out.

You don't score 32 points in an NBA game without being able to put it together... especially at only 23 years old. If this kid can give us 5 good minutes a night it's already a steal....Forget low risk...NO RISK.....Once again, good job Danny.  I'd much rather have too much fruit on the branch and have to decide which ones I want most, than empty branches...

22-year-old Rodrigue Beaubois once had a 40-point game.

Some players who have scored 32 points or more in an NBA game while being 24 or younger: Quincy Douby, Sean May, Salim Stoudemire, Mike Taylor, Jabari Brown.

Yes but it does suggest that there is something worth looking into with Perry Jones

But it doesn't mean that the look has to last longer than preseason.

I dunno.  Having a big game only means you put it together for that game.  And that you have the "potential" to put it together in the future.   'Doesn't mean much in the long run.

I can't help but think back to our first two games of the 2013-14 season.  In the first game, Vitor Faverani looked at least decent, scoring 13 points in his first ever NBA game (only had 3 rebounds but also had 3 blocks).

In his second game, though, he grabbed a phenomenal 18 rebounds and blocked 6 shots, to go with scoring 12 points!!!

He continued to start for a few more games, got a more diminished and diminished role … and then evaporated into the ether …

NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.

Teams having some tape and knowledge of their game, helps the defense.  Vitor was unknown but once they had his number he looked mundane.

PJIII is so exciting to me.

Along these lines, I'm surprised we never kept Austin Rivers for a look given his lotto status and diamond in the rough potential.

Whatever - much rather have PJIII. Much much rather. If he were to pan out, he fits our BIGGEST need.

One of the biggest knocks on PJ3 coming into the draft - before his knees got red flagged - was his lack of motor. 3 years into his career, it's hard to say that wasn't spot on. He's got the athleticism and raw talent to be at least starting caliber, but he just doesn't seem interested. And yes, I know Kevin Durant was starting in front of him but if I recall correctly, OKC was in bad need of a backup wing at the time Perry was drafted so the opportunity was there for him - more than people will say now. His little 3 game spurt shows he can be effective when he wants to, the question moving forward will be does he want to?
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

This could go down as one of the best trades in history if he does pan out and reaches his towering ceiling.

Much rather have PJIII than what?  Austin Rivers, obviously, but it's likely that the choice comes down to PJIII vs Jordan Mickey for the final roster spot, with maybe someone like Jonathan Holmes in the mix.

Keeping Jones will also make it harder for James Young to find NBA minutes.

I think it's James Young whose making it harder for James Young to find NBA minutes.

It's not like this roster is overloaded with 3pt specialists.

Had Roddy not had microfracture surgery he probably has a lot more 40 point games.

I think he's got a ton of potential and NBA history is littered with examples of guys who looked like busts on one team and were able to find themselves and carve out a role on another. I can't say with any certainty that Jones will be able to do that but he showed some flashes of real skill in OKC but couldn't get consistent and then couldn't get time on the floor. I think it's a terrific gamble.
