If theis is cheap I welcome him back with open arms.  He can hit that three and provides defense as a four.

Also you guys are sleeping on Tacko Fall.  7’6 and has looked surprisingly good in summer league.  Our First rounder Williams loves going against him in practice.

Seems like a fine young man but I'm not seeing too much in terms of ability.  We're pretty much at the bottom of the scrap heap.  Hope I'm wrong.

I see mobility, length and body improvement since 2 years ago

With no Horford , no Baynes

having Kanter, Timelord and now Poirier is nice to have on the roster.... Danny can also make a trade later on in the season if more help is needed

Gasol, Embiid, Horford, Giannis, Lopez, Jokic, Nurkic, Davis etc. are here to stay and you need size to offset/slow down these frontcourt players

Curious if it's a guaranteed deal.

I'm also curious what this means for Theis.

The Celts now have the following bigs under contract:

Kanter
Poirier  (Pwa-yay?)
Theis (QO)
Grant W.
Timelord
Yabu

Seems unlikely that the Celts will go into next season with 6 bigs under contract, considering that they have a lot of wings who are likely to spend time at the 4.

My guess is that Yabu, at the least, gets salary dumped on some team that ends up having some cap space left over once all the significant FA are signed.

I would expect it to be guaranteed for at least year 1.  If I’m not mistaken he has a contract through next year that he probably had to buy out, so I wouldn’t imagine he’d do that for something not guaranteed.

I expect that we’ll sign a veteran backup PG and then be done.  Yabu probably makes the roster but barring a huge elevation of his play, does not get his option picked up for next year.   There’s no need to salary dump him — the C’s are over the cap but about $20 million from the tax.  At the deadline his salary can match someone who was signed with the room exception, so if we need to pick up a role player at that time he can help.

Someone who can push Timelord for minutes behind Kanter?

Allows Theis to play some PF minutes against the bigger teams?  (Philly, Bucks)

Right now we can't afford to be picky. We don't have money to get the top centers. I'm just glad we now have two big bodies who can rebound, rim run and bang down low. If we can't get the lions, I'm fine with a couple of rhynos

Somewhat uninspiring, but at least there's a chance that he proves to be more than the vet min guys still hanging around.

If not for the Cousins buzz going around last night and this morning, this news might be more exciting. Let's hope for the best from Kanter and the gang.

On a side note, I really do hope we keep Theis. We can go above the minimum to sign him so using his and Yabu's salary together (and maybe even Kanter's) at the deadline may bring in a more established presence. I also like what a healthy Theis brings to the table as a versatile big - he seems to be the most well-rounded of the whole group.

I guess it will all sort itself out in training camp, but not in love with this signing. Seems a bit redundant of Kanter in terms of his ability.  Would much prefer someone like Vonleh, but my best guess is that we can't sign him.
