when the chips are down, this team plays to its potential. Which is why if the game comes down the wire, I think this team is almost unbeatable.

The problem is the first 45 minutes, especially the 2nd quarter.

Smart and Morris were the keys to this comeback though, particularly Smart. He's invaluable.

Tatum with some good defense too!

Actually Hayward was a big part too. He made some nice defensive plays and was available for the big layup when Kyrie got swallowed up. Horford made s huge comeback from the dreadful first half. And I will admit Yabusele wasn’t terrible. He actually played with some intensity on the defensive end.

Yabu had the most effective game of his career.  Not jumping off the stat sheet, but 16 meaningful minutes, 4 boards, 2 blocks -- and an important 3.

I think he’s made his case as Al’s primary backup on nights they play teams with a big-bodied center. Memphis wouldn’t move him the way they pushed Theis around.

Agree. Really impressed with the way he competed defensively.

How many points did Hayward get?

14 in 27 min he was 6-11 4th most shot attempts on the team they ran more plays for him to get his shot off

He also made some nice passes.

Very nice game for him overall. Only question I had about him - he couldn’t break anyone down off the dribble - not even Noah when he had him in space. Has this always been a limit on his game or is this an unity thing.

I think you have to throw Mr. Irving in there too. Efficient scoring night for him (8/16 fg, 2/4 3fg, 8/8 ft) + facilitating + a few energy plays.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

Perfect in OT so far and iirc, our loss in a close game comes from Oladipos big shot in Indy. Our other losses come from being blown out or outworked earlier in the game when this team has a hard time caring

13 assists for Kyrie tonight, very impressive month for him.

He is playing at a MVP level, 1st team All NBA level.

If Hayward can just come around...watch out.

So are they almost unbeatable or do they get blown out?

He was anything but efficient in the first half but he totally turned things around in the second. He was having an absolute nightmare in the second quarter turning the ball over and making bad decisions. But the mark of a great player is they don’t let that get them down and affect the rest of their game.  He kept at it and was rewarded in the second half.

Read it again. He said if the game comes down the wire.

I literally said “if the game comes down the wire, I think this team is almost unbeatable.“ Note the clause. The game needs to be close down the stretch.

And then I literally followed it with “The problem is the first 45 minutes, especially the 2nd quarter.”

The team is almost unbeatable if the game is close because guys’ intensity goes up, the defense improves, and we have one of the leagues best closers in Kyrie and some guys who often show up in big moments like Smart and Morris and Horford.

incredible comeback.  shouldn't have dug as deep a hole as they did but what an effort to come back to win this.

officiating was awful.

I normally don’t like to complain about the officials but there was some weird stuff out there.
