Key Matchups

 vs
Rajon Rondo vs Mo Williams
This will be a good matchup between 2 all star point guards, one on the way up and the other on the way down.  With LeBron gone, it will be up to Mo to up his scoring and it will be up to Rondo to be sure he doesn't.

vs
Shaquille O'Neal vs Anderson Varejao
Varejao plays with a lot of energy and could be a very tough matchup for the bug guy.  But Shaq also knows his game from playing against him in practice and that could give Shaq a slight advantage mentally.

Game Notes
Last Season: Celtics split series 2‐2…The Celtics were lead by Paul Pierce and his 22.5 points and 57.7% shooting from beyond the arc while Kevin Garnett added 15.0 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.25 blocks per game…Rajon Rondo averaged a double‐double with 14.8 points and 10.3 assists per game…The Cavaliers were led by LeBron James and his 36.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game while Mo Williams added 15.5 points and shot 54.5% from beyond the arc.

When last these two teams met, the Celtics were eliminating the Cavs from the playoffs.  But that was a much different Cavs team than we will see in this game.  That team was built around LeBron James and expected him to carry the team. This current team will have to depend on teamwork in order to win.

This is the Cavs home opener, so they will likely come out ready to prove to their fans that they can win without LeBron.  The Celtics on the other hand will be playing in the second of back to back games after an emotional win in their home opener against the Miami Heat.   The Celtics will need to depend on their bench to give the starters a break in their second game in as many nights.

The center in the starting lineup is especially up in the air.  It remains to be seen whether Doc will start Shaq in back to back games.  But he played just 18 minutes against the Heat and so he may once again get the start.  One question that won't be answered until closer to game time is whether Pierce's back will tighten up after the hard hit (read offensive foul) that he took from LeBron in the Heat game.

X-Factor  - Let Down
The Celtics played a very big game last night and it would be easy to let down and take the Cavs for granted.  But the Cavs are going to be very motivated and they have a lot to prove this season to the King with No Rings.  So the Celtics need to come out strong and not take this team for granted.

Great set-up, Florida, as usual (TP) ... it's going to be interesting to see how we respond to the anti-climactic atmosphere compared to the hype of tonight. Here's hoping that we concentrate on the mistakes of tonight, and not worry about the fall-out of playing the "Stupor-Heat".. go Celtics!!

  • TRANSFORMATION INTO CHAMPION COMPLETE!!!
It's so weird rolling into Cleveland knowing their is no hope for them this season, guess it's back to old times. Their team has a few other roster changes, but you realize just how bad of a team they were without Lebron, it's amazing they were as good as they were. I can't believe I actually feel bad for their fans, it must really suck to go from having arguably the best player in the NBA and being a contender (albeit never really a strong one in my view) to not making the playoffs (which they will not come even close to).

Having said all that... blow them and their bandwagon fans out by 50.

I enjoy this game meaning nothing and Cleveland being a non-factor. It makes my soul smile.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

We better not sleep on this game. I hope the Green go into Cleveland with the same attitude as the past 5 years. We need to kill this team by 30 and keep the lead.

Thanks for post, FLCeltsFan and TP4U!

Big win last night, but I hope we don't sleep on CLE. They will be a scrappy bunch, but as long as Doc uses the bench like he did last night, we should be ok.

I dislike these back-to-backs.

In college football they call this a TRAP GAME.   Big emotional win then play a team everybody thinks is bad.  Cleveland is going to win alot more games than people think this year.  They have a chip the size of florida on their shoulder.

But I expect our team to come out victorious (although Cleveland will be fired up, revenge factor + the "we can win without LeBron" mentality), with limited minutes for the starters and a lot for the Boston Bench Mob.

I expect great games from Rondo, Marquis and Nate tonight (Rondo has to carry the starters' scoring load tonight). Eager to see if JO gets a lot of minutes and finally gets in the flow of the offense (or kinda).

We must not get complacent, on the contrary, starting great and putting Cleveland way behind would be great for our bench to increase and maintain a big lead.

TP FL and go Celtics!!

don't expect much Mo williams tonight..if at all...looking more like he will not play due to a groin and missing a week of practice. look for sessions to get the bulk of work at PG with gibson backing him up.

Cavs strategy tonight is to try to use speed...they have sideshow bob playing center now..they have no bigs at all...if boston doesn't turn the ball over..i expect a beatdown
