If he loses this match to Steve Darcis, it might just be the greatest upset in tennis history.  And yeah I am exaggerating a bit, but not much.

I hope Nadal gets his head together and crushes.

Otherwise he goes down as the best clay player ever...and not much else.

Is he hurt? Nadal? Doesn't seem to be moving well + making some bad mistakes.

He does look like he's limping.

He's had some pretty well-documented knee problems, and grass is far and away his worst surface.

Seems to be getting it together in this last set, though.

You can see a video the New York Times put together detailing his injury here:

That was in straight sets too.

Either Nadal was hurt, uninterested in going on or we're looking at a brand new tennis star right here.

Great win by Steve Darcis.

Well that was a bummer. Vicious Ace at the end, though.

It's Wimbledon. Grass has always been a different animal -- that's why Wimbledon modifies seeding to give extra weight to grass court events.

High seed get upset on grass all the time, especially if they're clay specialists such as Nadal.

They don't modify seeding anymore.

And Nadal since 2006 at Wimbledon has gone runner-up, runner-up, winner, No entry, winner, runner-up, and 2nd round last year (he was hurt).  To call him a clay court specialist is a bit odd.  I mean I know he dominates the French (and clay in general) but only Federer has better than him on grass the last 7 or so years (Novak is better than him right now as well).  He also has only won the US and Australian Opens one time each (and has one loss in the finals in each as well) so he has as many grand slams on grass as he does on the hard courts (and more finals appearances on grass than on the hard courts) and that is with twice as many hard court opportunities.

Well, he's got 42 career titles on clay, and 15 on grass and hard courts combined. I think it's a fair assessment.

He is undoubtedly a great player. Even if calling him a specialist may be a bit too harsh, there's no mistake that clay is his strongest surface.

In any case, he was apparently injured this year so it has little to do with being upset by a grass specialist.

Something in the water in England.  These are just the top 20 seeds.

Women
#2 Azarenka withdraws due to injury
#3 Sharapova loses in round 2
#5 Errani loses in round 1
#9 Wozniacki loses in round 2
#10 Kirilenko loses in round 1
#12 Ivancovic loses in round 2
#13 Petrova loses in round 1

Men
#5 Nadal loses in round 1
#6 Tsonga is losing 2 sets to 1 and then withdraws in round 2
#10 Cilic withdraws due to injury before 2nd round
#11 Wawrinka loses in round 1
#14 Tipsarevic loses in round 1
#16 Kohlschreiber withdraws in 5th set of round 1
#18 Isner withdraws due to injury during 2nd round
#19 Simon loses in round 1

This doesn't include a number of other walkovers (like Darcis who beat Nadal withdrawing) and upsets outside of the top 20.  Something odd is going on at Wimbledon this year.  Even the mighty Federer is in a dog fight in his second round match.
