I’m concerned, chemistry-wise, but I love this move, talent-wise! I think he’s a perfect fit. We don’t need a “lockdown defender” or a “rim protector” per se. What we need from an ideal big is:

- sets solid picks
- gets tough rebounds
- makes plays without getting plays called for him
- mobile
- spaces the floor

TT ticks 4/5 of those boxes. I think this was a great signing by the C’s.

Thompson is a nice upgrade on Kanter.  I loved Kanter's personality, but physically he was too slow to switch to perimeter defense effectively.

Thompson also brings much of Kanter's rebounding prowess, so that's a good solid big we picked up.

Who wants to bet that Brad asks TT to develop his 3 point stroke?  If he can shoot at even 35% overall, and hit the open corner 3, he will help space that floor.

Celtics look to haye a very exciting team now.  The only question left is what we do with Hayward.  I still think we trade him to Indiana, but what return would we get back?

Looks like you have 100 pages to read.

I would also mini load manage him

Let him loose in the playoffs

Does anyone know how he does defending some of the better bigs in the league?
Not great. His lack of size works against him. Guys can play over the top of him pretty easily when they get inside.

His defensive qualities are more his perimeter D and general mobility rather than interior D.

Still Thompson provides something different to Theis on interior D. More muscle and toughness against post ups but less length and shot blocking in contesting shots. If only we were able to put them together! Then we'd have a DPoY candidate!

Also add veteran player with NBA championship experience, something this team desperately needed imo.

WOOT! Excited! A REAL big who can rebound and defend. Plus the signing of Teague. Fascinating.

how does thompson space the floor? he game is almost completely under the basket isnt it?

CBS likes his centers to play out near the top of the three point line, set picks, and pass. this will reduce thompson's key ability of rebounding it seems.

we shall see. maybe CBS can redesign the offense to fit him in, or, he can adapt.

so, what are the bets on whether theis or thompson starts more games?

EDIT: and on the plus side, ainge now has a $10 million contract to trade.  ;D

over 9 games of the last season he was 6/14 from 3.

prior to that he was 3-18 in 610 games.

so, i guess "starting to develop" is the right phrase.  ;D
