Why do so many folks think Thompson deserves to start over Theis?

Because he is a better talent.  Especially in the rebounding department.

He is also 6'9-6'10 and bulky and has the ability to guard centers properly

Feels like deja-vu with people saying Kanter should start last year. I was in the Theis camp then still am today.

Why should it matter, just start the best for the matchups every night. Stevens coaches this way.

TT and Theis are pretty close talent wise. I thought Theis slightly outplayed TT last season but not by much.

I would not be surprised either way over who starts. It's a close contest.

I think Thies might come off the bench just because he's a slightly better shooter and the bench will need that. TT doesn't need the ball to be effective, and playing with Brown/Tatum/Kemba he's going to be clean up and D to help make up for Kemba.

Thompson is 6'7" w/o shoes. Theis is 6'8" w/o shoes.

From NBADraft.Net following combine:

Despite his 7’1 wingspan, he only measured 6’7.5 barefoot and less than 6’9 with shoes.  Although some scouts thought he would come in even smaller.

Point being, they are both about the same height, and probably similar wingspan.  But very different players.

That’s pretty crazy. He comes off as bigger than Theis.

I personally would keep Theis as a starter, but I guess it depends on who Brad taps as the 4th starter after Walker/Brown/Tatum.

What I would do:

PG: Kemba - Pritchard - Teague
SG: Brown - Smart - Edwards
SF: Nesmith - Romeo - TBD
PF: Tatum - Grant - Semi
C: Thompson - Theis - Timelord

What I believe CBS will do:

PG: Kemba - Teague - Pritchard
SG: Smart - Romeo - Edwards
SF: Brown - Nesmith - TBD
PF: Tatum - Grant - Semi
C: Thompson - Theis - Timelord

Imo, Thompson is an uninspiring signing. Reminds me of the Amir Johnson signing. He's a good fit in our system, but we overpaid for a role player.

Hate to say it, but Teague might be close to cooked. His spell with the Hawks was pretty terrible.

Offensive Box Plus/Minus: -1.6
Defensive Box Plus/Minus: -1.5
Box Plus/Minus: -3.1
eFG%: 44.2 (league average was 52.9 last season)
TS%: 51.2 (league average was 56.3 last season)
Value Over Replacement Player: -0.2

I get that the Hawks sucked big time last season and that he only played 25 games for them. Even so, the VORP number suggests that he was a net negative.

I'm disappointed with our offseason. Only move I liked was drafting Nesmith.

Off all the free agent center available (i believe i posted in another thread about the centers) I knew that the only one danny would have interest in would be one who is under 6foot9.

Apparently 6'10 is the height of the ceiling in the training facility and danny is afraid ofba lawsuit from someone bunping their head.

Thats why Tacko has to train outside.

Of you course you dont. Your bias against them was so extreme. All 3 has shown to be serviceable guys worthy of playoff minutes. Remember your premature post that Brad has soured on Timelord that's why he wasnt receiving minutes at the start of the bubble? How did that age?

He’s still waiting for Timelord to prove he can play NBA level ball, for some reason...

Hi, guys . Sorry if I missed it but .. so there’s still a chance at a heft 28 mil trade exception? Will we know at some points if this is there to use?
Does anyone have names or I guess dreams on who that money could be used on? The numbers get pretty confusing for a guy that can barely used a calculator here. Ha! I’m the English side of the brain. Numbers give me headaches!
Thanks, guys. Things are looking up I think!
