You can’t.

The team would have to send out important players and then it would be hard-capped.

I don't really want Beal. I think Jaylen is just as good and younger.

Beal makes sense if he opts in and you deal Smart, White and three to four 1st* for him and Kuzma. If he opts out and signs at like 42 million or so it's going to be hard to match salaries and be hard capped.

If he opts in and wants to go to the Celtics, Eg he tells Washington he’ll only opt in if he’s traded to Boston, then Smart and White alone get it done. They both have positive value in their current contracts and that’s all it has to be for Washington - better than nothing.

Also, we couldn’t absorb Kuzma’s contract because you can’t combine the TPE with other players. They could do that as a separate deal if Washington wanted to - and that might involve a couple firsts, but it couldn’t be part of a Beal deal.

People don't have to explain a TPE when the traded salary doesn't need combined salaries. The trade mentioned works as two separate trades already. It's simplified on purpose. I don't want to write out
Trade one=White, Smart and a 1st, plus a 1st swap for Beal.
Trade two= TPE and a 1st for Kuzma.

Beal signs for 5 years $251 mil.

People are really complaining about Derek White making $17 mil or Brogdon making $22 mil meanwhile the Wizards are paying $50 mil a year for a 29 year old who's made 3 all star teams. Money in the NBA is crazy.

So insane! The age old question of what matters more, most money or winning is being answered this year. Not many walk away from a quarter of a billion!

At the same time, by resigning, he has put himself in a position where he could be traded to a contender without hardcapping them.

But that contract has lowered his value for the Wizards in a trade. Will be tough for most teams to match salaries. But still probably a good move for them if they finally decide to get picks and tank.

Cause that team is going nowhere as currently constructed.

I wouldn't mind grabbing a couple of players off that team.

Avery would be a good 13th man.

Fans might disagree, but you can never begrudge a player picking generational wealth over winning. Just like some people don't care if they never get promoted as long as they get salary increases every year.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D
