Now sign and trade grant for a wing player.

Do the Celtics trade PP and the 35th pick to get into the first round?

This is an absolute swindle if we aren't giving up any picks

This is right in line with the value Dallas got for Zinger.

Pretty much.  Wizards are doing well to get a 1st.  They dumped a worse contract in Bertans and had a 2nd round pick swap with Dallas when they got Porzingis.

But a $36 million expiring contract is a huge thing for a team over the second apron.  Keeping our picks means Porzingis could be on the move at the deadline for something else big if he doesn’t work out.

Porzingis and Timelord as a defensive duo makes me salivate. Plus we get to move Horford to the bench, which is probably where he belongs at this point. Only concern is health.

One open question for me -- how "switchable" is Porzingis? There must be some stats on this that someone is faster to get to than I am :) He's going to be forced into guarding guys who can make him pay off the dribble or with a shot if he sags. Beyond that, though, our length is ridiculous -- any combination of 3 of Smart, White, Brown, Tatum + any two of Al, Rob, Porzingis. That's a nightmare to drive against.

This is excellent work by Stevens. I incorrectly believed that two small deals involving GW and PP would be the extent of their offseason activity.

I do wonder a bit if they will need two basketballs to keep everyone happy? Hopefully winning will keep everyone happy.

This leads me to this rumor about this deal:

Cunningham, Stewart, and #5 for JB

Seems unlikely to me but maybe they really want to avoid that double supermax situation.

According to multiple league sources, the completion of the Porzingis deal would likely mean that Grant Williams's time in Boston has come to an end.

So, it would net out to KP for Brogdon + Gallo + Williams?

I think there's still an opening for a S&T with Grant which was always likely.

So we'll have one big who's 37 and 2 more who can't stay healthy.  If Grant goes (which apparently is likely) this is far from ideal. Plus we have a coach who doesn't know how to manage minutes.

Also if Brogdon and Gallo are gone, not to mention Grant, there will be a need for more reliable 3 pt shooting again.

I don't quite see this as a 'steal' - more like a roll of the dice.

I think they are going to sign and trade grant getting someone back

This seems odd, especially if we are giving up Gallinari.  I know the deal is adding salary but are we going to count on Muscala for regular minutes if we don't resign Grant?  We will need more than just Horford, RWill, and Porzingis to play regular minutes at PF and C, at least in the regular season.

Coaching will be much better this season with the quality of assistants they brought in

I’m pretty sure the Celtics will still give Grant his qualifying offer.  He’s not walking for nothing.

Well they could still very well return something in a S&T for Williams.

For example lets say SAS want to put a shooter and stout big defender next to Wemby, maybe they offer #33 to the c's in a S&T just to guarantee the c's don't match. Something like that.

The questions now are:

-What can they get back for Grant in a S&T.
-Will Pritchard be happy enough as the 3rd (3.5th guard if Jaylen plays some 2) guard? Or is he still going to get moved.

Also, far less likely but with LAC off the table for a PG......Chris Paul to Boston?

It's still a valid concern. You have to play other guys regular season minutes and maybe even go smaller during the regular season. Ideally you keep Horford, Rob, Porzingis much closer to 20 mpg than 30+ mpg where they've all been in the past (Rob variable but the others yes). Preserving them is going to be the name of the game. They should be on a minutes limit basically all year.

You say that as if Brogdon and Gallo are beacons of health lol. Brogdon is always hurt and Gallo didn't play at all this past year.

If you can get Kristaps Porzingis for that outgoing set of players, you do it. Yes, he has issues staying healthy, but when he is on the floor, he is one of the most dominant bigs in basketball. The ceiling of this team with Porzingis is insane.

At some point, you have to take risks. The Celtics need to win now.
