It’s July 8th, and the Celtics have still not signed any of their draft picks.  This is somewhat unusual for the team.  Last year Robert Williams signed the day Summer League started.  The year before both Jayson Tatum and Ante Zizic signed on July 1st.  (In the prior CBA, draftees used to only have a cap hold equal to their draft slot, and would then sign for 120%, so players like Jaylen Brown would delay their signing until after their team had used up its cap space, but now the cap hold is 120% of slot values for draftees).

Once the Celtics (or any team) signs a draftee, that player cannot he traded for 30 days.  Meanwhile, until the player is signed, he can be traded and he doesn’t count for purposes of matching salaries.  Since the cap hold is equal to 120% of slot value (in other words, what the player will ultimately sign for) there’s no reason to delay these signings other than for immediate trade flexibility.  So what deal do you think Danny is working on? Speculate below!

I would be surprised if there are any trades before the beginning of the season.

BUT if I were Danny i would be looking to dangle Smart and Yabusele for a big. My dream targets would be Aaron Gordon or Myles Turner.

I don't think there's anything in the works.

I admit that I don't know why the rooks aren't signed yet.

Waiting until Carsen lights up Summer League and flipping him for Matisse Thybulle.

Austin Ainge mentioned during last summer league game this is just about set in stone.
Unless a miracle player becomes available (Westbrook doesn't count but on that level or higher) I doubt anything is in the works.

Not that I think anything is coming down the pike, but even if they knew something was imminent, I’m sure Austin and Danny would say the same thing regardless

Can he throw in a pick with Edwards while he’s at it?

That does seem strange.  Let me offer this:

Towns and Wiggins for Jaylen Brown, Gordon Hayward, Robert Williams, Romeo Langford, Carson Edwards, and Yabusele.

We may need to include more salary to get that to work. Theis? Other?

I'll get killed for that, but what the heck....

IMO only small moves remain for this season.

Personally I want Bamba, watch his summer league return. He has bulked up and his shooting form looks beautiful.

It's not that crazy.  If you believe Towns is a generational talent he's worth taking on Wiggins.  Wiggins could always be dumped at some point if necessary.

A trio of Towns/Tatum/Kemba could be pretty nasty.  Figure out the rest later.

I am not as high on Bradley Beal.
But just for kicks; What would you give up for him?

I'd do that deal without question. How much value is that young group (Robert Williams, Romeo Langford, Carson Edwards and Yabusele) really? Sure 3 first round picks and an early second, but much uncertainty what they can bring on the court.

Wiggins is a big negative contract and while we can hope that Hayward returns to form, he's still a negative contract himself. I think Brown will be an All Star, but I don't think he can reach the level of Towns.

I don't think there's anything going on.  If Danny had any reasonable expectation of moving our draft picks, I think they'd be held out of summer league.

At some point Yabu needs to get his walking papers, though.  We'll probably keep him until mid-January at least, but the guy doesn't deserve a roster spot.
