Memphis Grizzlies

PG- Kevin Johnson/Mookie Blaylock
SG- Jeff Hornacek/Steve Kerr
SF- Bruce Bowen/Xavier McDaniel
PF- Pau Gasol/Al Horford
C-  David Robinson

I think I have a nice combination of shooting, rebounding, passing, and defense.  I was really going for chemistry/fit and I think these guys would work pretty well together.

If you replaced Al Horford with like..Lamar Odom or something, your team is the most feasible team that could legitimately be created in the NBA. Looks like an actual team.

Guys, remember this only really works if you also comment on either people's team.

What year Finley are you taking?  In his best statistical years, he never cared much for playing defense.  I worry about pairing a guy like that with Nash in the back court.  When the two players were in fact paired in Dallas, the Mavs routinely were near the bottom of the league in defensive efficiency.

Of course, they didn't have a front line that included Pippen, Brand, O'neal, and Smith, either.  Those bigs are going to cause a lot of teams grief in this exercise.

I'd work on finding some defensive guards at this point.

Tricity Blackhawks  (we are going historical name)

PG  Williams
SG  Ray Allen
SF  Deng
PF  Love
C   Howard

Bench

PG Brandon
SG Petrovic
SF Glen Robinson
PF/C Clifford Robinson (big headband one)
PF/C Aldridge

I concur with Roy - this is the most sound team, really, really like it.. Love the fit all across the board, and I think getting LMA was a huge pickup for the team because it gives you another look without having to sacrifice chemistry.

My only concern here would be crunch time / go to scoring. You'll have to lean on Ray-Ray pretty heavily, and against a great defensive 2 you could have some trouble..

I think its a pretty good team, but I also think that Howard's defensive dominance will be mitigated somewhat by the large quantity of plus defenders at the 5, and plus offensive centers.

Howard has had to play against what..2,3 legitimate rivals in his career? Bynum, and..Perkins? I dunno. Also, a lot of centers now haven't had solid staying power.

So the dominance that Howard shows against the Joakim Noah's and Channing Frye's of the NBA isn't going to stick against the Ewings or even Daughertys of years past.

And without Howard's dominance, I think you run the risk of getting beat on defense more than you would if it were just current day players, youknow?

I'm gonna take Finley sometime in the early 00's.

EDIT: Also, I never remember Finely having a rep as a poor defender. I was under the impression that he was always a better than average guy, getting close to elite status (among 2's) in his prime.

He prided himself on it in fact, IIRC.

OK

All other teams are worse than the Hawks.

Not quite sure of the years yet, but these are probably my first choices.

Indiana Pacers

PG: Rajon Rondo (09/10 - 13.7 ppg, 9.8 apg, 2.3 spg, 51% fg) All-star, all defensive 1st team

SG: Reggie Miller (89/90- 24.6 ppg, 52% fg, 41% 3's) All-star

SF: Gerald Wallace (09/10- 18.2 ppg, 10 rpg, 48% fg, 37% 3's) All-star, all defensive 1st team

PF: LeBron James (11/12- 27.1 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 6.2 apg, 53% fg, 36% 3's.)
All-star, all NBA 1st team, all defensive 1st team, MVP

C: Tyson Chandler (11/12- 11.3 ppg, 9.9 rpg, 68% fg (WHAT!?!))
Defensive Player of the Year, all defensive 2nd team (also, WHAT!?!)

Bench:

Rashard Lewis (08/09- 17.7 ppg, 40% 3's) All-Star
Raja Bell (05/06- 14.7 ppg, 41% 3's) All-defensive 1st team
Jason Terry (06/07- 16.7 ppg, 5.2 apg, 48% fg, 44% 3's)
Al Jefferson (07/08- 21.0 ppg, 11.1rpg, 50% fg)

The offense can be run through Rajon Rondo, and LeBron James can control the ball when he sits. My starting line-up with the exception of Reggie are all unbelievable defensive players, and at the end of games I can put in Raja Bell for defensive purposes. Off the bench, I have some much needed shooting/scoring with three guys that shoot it over 40% and can play multiple positions. Al Jeff is a great big man that can provide some much needed post scoring. I think I'm pretty well-rounded. I don't think a true back-up point is necessary when LeBron can run the offense. The only thing I probably need right now is another defensive big man, but other than that I like how these pieces fit together.

Let me start off with thankyou IP for running this draft pretty well. You've done a great job as commissioner, and consequently this has been a great draft.

Not a fan of your team though. Liked the Pippen-Nash start, hated it since. I hate O'Neal and Brand together. While they're fairly decent shooters, I think they'll get in each others way and worse I think they'll limit Pippen-Nash. And while Josh Smith is a nice thought to pair w/ Nash, I don't think what he brings offensively for you negates how he'd struggle defensively against elite bigs.

And I mean, Latrelle Sprewell, man. Woulda been perfect.

Al Jefferson (07/08- 21.0 ppg, 11.1rpg, 50% fg)

I think playing Bron out of position at the 4 is fools gold. Sometimes you'll be able to get away with it, but only in specific matchups.

Also, you gotta take Rondo this season, because of the playoffs he's been having. Its not even really a close decision in my mind, statistics be darned.

Yeah, I'm strongly considering this year's Rondo, even though his stats were their strongest in 09/10. Some decisions to make, but I think I have multiple options with each player in terms of years selected that can work out for me

How's my team?

C- Yao Ming
PF - KG
SF - Eddie Jones
SG - Michael Redd
PG - Chauncey

Bench:

C - Joakim Noah
PF- Zach Randolph (11-12)
SF ?
SG - TA
PG - Sam Cassell

I really like this team, but I think you made one crucial mistake that IMO cost you the best starting 5: I forget who you took, either Redd or Jones, but Melo was the perfect small forward for you. Billups-Melo play well off each other, Melo would give you more size at 3 (Jones is an excellent defender, but I'd worry about him being undersized), and you'd have a player that could create for himself on the wing.

That being said, Ming and KG would be murderous on both ends of the court - pretty much perfect compliments to each other, and also terrific passers. And Redd, Jones and Billups will make people pay.

I only mention the Melo thing to point out the obvious; you have an amazing team, just thought you could've clinched it with that pick.
