If you can only have fifteen players on an all-time dream team and:

1. Each player can only play the dominant position in their career
2. You have to have three players at each position

…who makes the team in your opinion?

All-time dream team IMHO (painful to have to give so much credit to so many Lakers, but give the nod to Shaq over Kareem…before later changing my mind):

Magic Johnson/Steph Curry/John Stockton
Michael Jordan/Kobe Bryant/Jerry West
LeBron James/Larry Bird/Kevin Durant
Tim Duncan/Karl Malone/Kevin Garnett
Bill Russell/Wilt Chamberlain/Shaquille O’NealKareem Abdul-Jabbar

I just did it like it was the 3 best players at each position rather than actual team building

PG - Oscar, Magic, Stockton
SG - Jordan, West, Kobe
SF - Lebron, Bird, Dr. J
PF - Duncan, Malone, Dirk
C - Kareem, Wilt, Bill
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

  • STAND FIRM, SAY NO TO VIBE MEN
PG: Stephen Curry/Chris Paul/Oscar Robertson
SG: Michael Jordan/Jerry West/Kobe Bryant
SF: LeBron James/Larry Bird/Kevin Durant
PF: Kevin Garnett/Magic Johnson/Tim Duncan
C: Bill Russell/Bill Walton/Shaquille O'Neal

This is just looking at players with similar peaks imo and putting them into lineups taking fit into account, it is by no means my list for the absolute highest peak players in their respective positions.

Look at who is my backup power forward before you kill me for 'not including the best name in NBA history for the adult industry', and yes that was his main defensive position in his career
Jaylen Brown for All-NBA

I like your list, except I personally can't leave out Kareem.  Like Moranis, I would choose the all-time leaders in scoring over Shaq, who is not on my top-10 all-time.  He's in the 11-15 range.

I have Shaq 5th all time at the center spot behind the 3 guys I mentioned and also Hakeem.  Shaq had a super dominate 3 year run, without question, but overall I just don't think he is on the same level as the other 4.  Given longevity I think you can also make an argument for Moses who was better for longer and who was also the best player in the world for like a 5 year period (winning 3 MVP's in that time).

So if I were going to tier the centers I'd have something like this

Kareem/Wilt
Bill
Hakeem
Shaq/Moses

Then you have a fairly big drop off before you get to the next tier with guys like Robinson, Ewing, etc.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Yep, I cheated to leave Kobe off.  Curry plays a ton off-ball anyway.

Changed my mind: Kareem over Shaq, if only for being the all-time points leader…

It’s not cheating if it screws a Laker lol

Something that reinforces the GOAT argument for MJ: Who is the starting shooting guard is the only unanimous slot.

Michael Jordan/Jerry West/Kobe Bryant
Larry Bird/LeBron James/Elgin Baylor
Bob Pettit/Tim Duncan/Karl Malone
Bill Russell/Wilt Chamberlain/Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

Went with a few old-school choices here, but you either consider someone who was truly incredible in their era or you don't.

Hardest choice was Kobe or Havlicek. I almost went with Hondo.

Whether you think Petit or Duncan is the greatest power forward of all-time is purely how much you discount earlier era players.
