So another all-offense no-defense PF to go alongside Jabari Parker.

I’m wondering if this is a move to replace Jabari.

Is he the guy who always played well against us for the Knicks or his brother?

Yeah the 7  foot one.

This guy was highly rated coming out of Europe league.  He actually is a prototype power forward. I posted several times on this board suggesting that we consider trading for him last year.

Thank you, Brad, for listening to me!!

He actually can defend 3s and 4s pretty well. I remember a game vs Denver 2 or 3 seasons ago where he really frustrated Gordon Hayward a few times guarding him. He has long arms.  This move makes a lot of sense in terms of roster balance.

Yeah, I think it's an upgrade even if only slightly. Juancho Hernangomez can play.

He was at least a passable defender in Denver.  Not so in Minnesota.  Hopefully being in a better environment can help him find that defensive competence again.

Juancho was let go by Denver because his defense was too bad. He is too soft. Despite his size, he gets pushed around by anyone. Plays like a small guard despite being 6-10.

Same issue in Minnesota.

Both situations compounded by having weak defensive centers in Towns and Jokic who were franchise players so non-defensive role playing PFs are easily discarded in order to get those guys the defensive help they need.

He was “let go” because the Nuggets had an opportunity to get a 1st round pick AND drop under the luxury tax in the same trade.  Minnesota liked him and signed him to a new deal that summer in free agency.  He was seen as an asset in that trade, not a liability.

At minimum we got rid of Carson Edwards so it’s an automatic win for me. Getting a legit PF for two useless players is also an automatic win. On top of it we preserved next year’s salary flexibility.

1.  He’s a PF so that’s a plus

2.  Figured if they wanted a PF from Memphisnit would have been Anderson but oh well.

3.  What exactly does this guy offer (honest question)?

Juan’s 6’9” with a 7’0 wingspan and is a career 35% from 3pt. He has the size and athleticism to play the position. Grant Williams is 6’5”, a worse shooter and he gets abused by taller, More athletic players. Juan is a clear upgrade.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Juancho vs GWill vs Jabari. Who gets the back up minutes now? Am still rooting for Jabari.

Absolutely love getting rid of Edwards (wanted that for a long time), and this guy can actually play in the NBA, unlike Edwards. Look at how balanced/deep our bench is, particularly if we slot Brown and Tatum at the 2/3 and make Smart sixth man:

Schröder/Smart/Pritchard
Brown/Richardson/Langford
Tatum/Nesmith
Horford/Parker/Hernangomez/Williams
Timelord/Kanter/Fernando

Next off-season, we’re looking at this baseline, assuming we bring back Al at a friendly-rate and we re-sign Jabari (got a feeling he’s here for the long-haul, gang):

Smart/Pritchard/Madar
Richardson/Langford/Begarin
Brown/Nesmith
Tatum/Parker
Timelord/Horford

Not a fan of having Juancho on our payroll for $7,419,505 in 2022/23. Anyway, it's a minor trade. I guess we finally have our 15-man roster.

Bye, Bye, Grant Williams. He was due $4.3M next year on a team option. Juan’s $7.4M isn’t really a big deal with him off the books. Plus, no more Edwards who had a team option for $2m.
Hernangomez the player does nothing for me - however, they finally got Edwards off the roster, so this is a solid move. If they can soon send Grant packing then this team is finaly on its way to getting back on track.
