Zots gonna make Partizan great! The 3 year deal makes it unlikely Madar comes over anytime soon. That being said, Obradovic is one of the greatest/winningest coaches in European history so Madar gets to learn and work with one of the best. He’ll likely make it break Madar.
Chances are there's a buyout in his contract in case the C's wanna sign him.

I reckon this is good news for both Yam and the Celtics. I'm hopeful Yam will become a better player under Obradovic.  He's an amazing coach (albeit very demanding from his players).

All the reports are speculating but I don't think there is any reason to be concerned there isn't a reasonable buy out in the contract.  I think what happened is summer league showed both the Celtics and Yam that he isn't quite ready for the NBA.  He wasn't going to make the NBA roster.  Better for all to have another year in Europe.  Still a promising prospect in my view.  To me, this does not indicate anyone has given up on anything.  I suspect he will be revisited next summer and maybe by then he is ready for the NBA.

This is why I don’t like draft & stash players..some don’t ever come & just stay over there..waste of money & time for any team..just draft a player and develop them in d-league

Yam Madar will turn down a 2-way contract from the Celtics in favor of a multiyear deal in Partizan Belgrade, with Europe's most famous coach, Zeljko Obradovic.

Fine by me. Hopefully, he'll be become a way better player under Obradovic.
I'm ecstatic with his decision - choosing to fight for a starting spot under one of the greatest coaches of all time is a much better choice than opting to ride the pine under the tutelage of a rookie head coach who wasn't even that great at what he specialised in during his previous jobs.

He clearly was not ready for the NBA, needs some weight room work.   Has some potential though, great passer and very scrappy on D.  Developing is what he needs right now.

According to reports, they wanted him in the G-League on a two-way, but he didn't.

Stevens says Yam Madar and Juhann Begarin will stay overseas this year. Madar just signed a 3 year deal with Partizan Belgrade, so he can be bought out next offseason.

I’m not sure if the Celtics wanted him on a 2-way, or wouldn’t offer him any more.  To keep a draft pick’s rights, you have to offer at least a non-guaranteed 1-year minimum deal.  This can include a 2-way clause.  So they may have given him the perfunctory offer, but also would have preferred him to stay overseas.  Same with Begarin.

When does the timer on his contract start? How long do we hold his rights? Do his rights start when we roster him? Or do they run out if he stays in Europe for x amount of years?

He's a 2nd rounder, so there's really no timer on his "contract", years and what not need to be negotiated. As for his rights, we can hold it indefinitely as long as he's playing pro-ball somewhere, and one year there after (after his contract ends). If we don't agree to a contract by then, we lose his rights and he joins the next draft... after which he's either signed by the team that drafts him or becomes a free-agent.

Glad they're both staying overseas. Yam has got to fill out physically if he's ever going to play in the NBA.

Looking forward to seeing how he does with the step up in competition this year.

This is Yam Spam.

He had a good first game in summer league and looked lost.  I for one, am not counting on him to do anything, but it would be nice if he did.
