#Sixers G Markelle Fultz said the ball slipped out of his hand on his foul shots.
Sixer fans reaction:
"Picking up this bum's 2019 option is going to be the biggest mistake Elton Brand makes this year."

This is covered in the philly thread.
-
No attempts from 3 in November (seven games) for Fultz. :o last attempt 10/30.

Lol, jeesh. Being high on him continues to come back and mock me

Kind of looked like a seizure. I really hope he is ok. I honestly hope he succeeds

I genuinely feel as if a fresh start could help him play better, but I feel as if Philly don't want that loss of face

When Danny made the trade I assumed he wasn't interested in a pg, but then he traded for Irving soon after. He must have seen something in Fultz that he didn't like as Fultz was nearly a consensus for the number one overall. I'd love to hear Danny speak honestly about it.

It's clearly a case of muscle imbalance. ;)

I don't get it. If everyone in the world is telling him that he looks like a dummy shooting that way, that's not how humans shoot basketballs, and he's attracting negative attention to himself... why is it so hard to get rid of the hitch? It's really weird. Between those two videos he looks like a Parkinson's sufferer. I'm joking of course but I could picture Michael J Fox in place of Fultz in those videos.

He is a dud. This could be why he did not play half his college season to hide this and keep his draft value. Butler also is not going to tolerate this stuff.
Where are the guys who think he still has high trade value at today in this thread.....

The signs were out there for all to see. You don't hide a player for half a year unless you have something to hide. I doubt that Ainge speaks about it.
here is a blast from the past.
“From what I’m told, Fultz didn’t shoot the ball exceptionally well in his workout in Boston,”
https://weei.radio.com/blogs/weei/espns-jeff-goodman-dh-markelle-fultz-didn%E2%80%99t-shoot-ball-well-workout-celtics
“I gotta earn everything,” Fultz said when asked if the team promised him the No. 1 selection. “Just talking to them, we didn’t really talk about me getting drafted or anything like that, but more about me being a better young man, no matter where I go. Just what’s going to make me the best player I can possibly be.”
https://chowderandchampions.com/2017/06/13/boston-celtics-draft-news-markelle-fultz-had-bad-shooting-day-during-workout/
I think we had no intentions of drafting him after doing our due deligence. Note the part above "about being a better man no matter where I go."
I know he was some guys draft binkie but we all blows those from time to time....

Refs continually see fouls that never happened, but can't see 6 simultaneous lane violations?
And in case you're wondering, under Rule 10, section I (6) (http://www.nba.com/analysis/rules_10.html), when players on both teams commit a lane violation, it's ruled a dead ball which leads to jump ball.
-
I keep going back to that brief time when the future of the Celtics was going to be Fultz and IT in the backcourt.
Can you imagine?
-
Does anyone know exactly Fultz’s injury is? I was told I had an inflamed radial nerve on my left side a few years back, and I feel my muscle alignment in the left shoulder extended area has been off for a ever since. I’ve been through 2 stints of physical therapy, and had various degrees of improvement and regression. It has never really had been painful just different degrees of discomfort and tightness. It’s workable now that I can at least work out at the gym. I’m just curious if it’s something like that. I’ve never seen a diagnosis.

In Chinese medicine those are called qi&blood vessel injury, it will be pain/soreness/tightness ect and can effect the nerves causing degrees of dysfunction, casual physical therapy don't really have a good result on it
Also if not treated properly it can get worse with time, really not suggest lift weight before it's fully healed

It is interesting that Fultz was shooting some 3s in October and making them at 30.8% but so far in November he hasn't taken a single 3pt shot.

Now that I go back and watch his college highlights, feels like the beginning of his hitch are more pronounced...

Just the timeline of everything with Fultz leaving the team 2 weeks ago, and no announcement until now, plus everything before it too, I wonder if they had to go doctor shopping to find that diagnosis.

How would that help Fultz? His value is sunk until he gets on the court and shows he can play reasonably well and for some period of time without a recurrence.

Selling a treatable physical issue is far better than a mental block with a historically poor prognosis.

Yea this seems pretty obvious. I believe there was even a report that teams considering trading for him were concerned it could be mental.

Except this isn't a typical injury with a lot of history that teams can bank on. There's not a standard test for it so there is a significant chance that the diagnosis isn't correct. Typical treatment doesn't require surgery but I just read a story about 4 Padres pitchers that had surgery for it. So there's a lot of uncertainty.
Maybe this diagnosis helps the Sixers a bit if they want to trade him but does it really help Fultz? Is any team really going to pickup his 4th year 12.2M option based on this diagnosis without him getting back on court and proving that he can actually play for some time without a recurrence?

Yeah. Also, if we assume this diagnosis is correct, the common cause of it is repetitive movement. In over 50 years of NBA basketball, no player has ever been diagnosed with this. If at his age he can't practice shooting the ball without injuring himself, what does that say about his long term prognosis? Especially considering that he took half the year off in college too.

Sounds like there has been ~20 MLB pitchers diagnosed with the NTOS in recent years and the surgery involves removing the 1st rib and potentially some muscle. From the story I read, it sounds like the surgery has generally been successful with a variable recovery period. I expect the physical therapy route won't work for Fultz and they'll have to resort to surgery but how successful is that going to be for a pro basketball player?

Yeah, but pitching a baseball at high speed is a totally different motion that causes all sorts of injuries in pitchers. It's really odd that shooting a basketball would do that, and is concerning about whether or not that is the correct diagnosis, and if so, its worrisome for his stability long term if he can't manage to shoot the ball without hurting himself.

Which is why I don't think the diagnosis itself makes much change in how teams view Fultz. Medical staffs won't be able to give an informed opinion as to recovery time, long-term prognosis, etc.

If it is mental, sometimes it’s good to just give a patient a diagnosis. Now he has good reason to believe he is messed up.
If doctor after doctor tells you nothing is wrong, but he believes there is, it’s going to keep building up in his head.
So now he can work on fixing his “syndrome” with renowned doctors and physical therapists.

That sounds horrible. Man and I am reading a horror book right now.
Which is all well and good until one of those doctors decides to put him under the knife and remove a rib

I am very happy we won that trade and all - but at some point, you gotta feel bad for this kid. Having said that, I am relieved we have Tatum instead of Fultz or Ball.

Following pro ball for 55 years, I've never seen anything like this. I feel bad for him.
However, I always had Tatum at the top of my board. Fultz had a history of being on underperforming teams (which can happen) and Ball's shot was always suspect.

Knew someone with this diagnosis years ago. In her case it wasn't very treatable...more like a live with the discomfort kind of thing. But I don't know much about it...are there varying degrees, treatability, etc.? Maybe the science and treatment of it is has improved over past 20 years...
In any case...I think it's a nasty thing to have.
