Danny Ainge said on @Toucherandrich that the Celtics are planning as if Shane Larkin will not be available for the entire Cavs series but hoping he could be back for latter part of series if shoulder improves

This stinks. Brown probably back to starting lineup and Smart becomes back PG.
-
We're getting pretty close to the dream: Dancing Bear inserted into the rotation.
-
That is too bad, but this shouldn't be a big deal. Rozier, Brown, and Smart should be able to cover all of the guard minutes (32 each). This limits smaller line-ups with Smart/Brown at SF, but Tatum, Morris, Horford, and Baynes should be able to cover front court minutes with a few minutes sprinkled in for Ojeleye and Brown/Smart if need be.
-
Please do NOT play Nader. I would rather play 4 on 5 rather than play the turnover machine.
-
This sucks!

Tough loss. Hard to replace his 10-12mpg at this point.
I prefer the energy Smart brings off the bench than I do Jaylen’s.
However, with McConnell in the starting lineup, do we really want Brown chasing either him or Reddick all night? Rozier can’t get burned like he did several times last game. I’m sure that’s a point of emphasis for tonight as that was the only real difference we saw from games 1-3 to game 4. TJ got the green light and ran with it, often right past Terry.
I expect a much better effort and intensity from us than last game. The crowd is going to have the Garden rocking.
-
Call up Bird! Thought he should be on the playoff roster over Nadar anyway.

Niether Reddick nor McConnell can guard Jaylen. Jaylen can guard either one of those guys and can switch onto Simmons if needs be.

Larry Bird?

Can they call him up? Thought teams were set once the playoffs started?
-
I could see them spend some time running the offense through Horford. They did that before in some games when Irving and Smart were both out, and it worked pretty well.
If Brown is healthy I would start him, bring Smart in as back up point guard, then use Horford as needed.
Out of all their injuries, Larkins is the least of the concerns. Maybe Semi steps up a bit.

Well No, he's way too old. But if you're taking about Jabari, they can not as far as I know. I'm pretty sure 2-way players are not eligible for playoffs.

No they can not call him up.

Which is asinine. You can sign Joe Schmo up until the last day of the season if he wasn't on a roster after 3/1 and he will be playoff eligible, but a player who is in your system and has played games for you during the season is not. I realize the Cs could have potentially waived a player like Nader and signed Bird to a real contract, but with so many injuries, a team should be able to dip into their two-way contract players.

We officially have no backup guard if something happens to rozier or smart. I don't think we can just bring up kadeem or jabari
While Bird isn't a PG per se, he's a guard who could spell Marcus at the 2 when Smart plays the 1. I really wish we had dumped Nader when we had the chance and signed Bird despite the cap implications (meager in my mind vs his worth to the club RIGHT NOW as next man up) and loss of his control for one year.
I started this poll:

Nader is useless except the very occasional 3-ball. His aversion or ineptness (or both) on D sickens me. We shouldve dumped Nader before the last game of the season and signed Bird. and this isnt hindsight.
-
Larkin has been very injury prone this season. Wonder if it will affect the offers that he'll receive this summer.
-
I suspect we'll see Semi get his minutes, maybe a few Greg Monroe minutes.
Terry and Smart will play a lot tonight.
Gotta pull out all the stops to win this series. Whatever comes after that is a bonus.

Bird doesn't figure anywhere into the picture. The team will give more time to Ojeleye and play Tatum at SG before resorting to Bird. And they will be right, Oj is decidedly the less awful of the two.

I think Larkin will be rested and ready if not by Sunday by game 2 if they close it out tonight.

Dang.
-
Maybe he can come back by Game 3?
There's three days off between Game 2 (Tuesday) and Game 3 (Saturday).
On another note, three days off? Dang. Does that happen that often in playoffs? I think it did a few times like during those Boston-Miami series (2011 for example, with Game 2 on Tuesday, Game 3 Saturday), but usually there's like 2 two-days off periods between games during a series I think. Instead, we have that three day off period, then just a game every other day.

It happens when the 2nd round matchups all go 4 or 5 games.

Oh okay, TP for that. I honestly didn't know.

Yeah, considering the Finals dates are set, they have to protect against short Conference Finals.
Imagine these next two series are shorter than we all anticipate? The winners could have nearly two weeks off before the Finals if they didn’t spread this out now.

Any updates on Larkin?

I d play with a broken leg .

Tatum , Irving , Brown will see more .
No, you wouldn't. And anyone that has ever dislocated or sprained a shoulder can tell you that you wouldn't be playing through that, either
-
Any updates on Larkin?
Ruled out for g1-2 and unlikely to play for the rest of the series according to C’s bloggers/writers on twitter
(Would link if at a computer)

eventually we're just going to run out of enough players to put on the court.

true but shaq diesel played for his last game through a torn Achilles
In the final weeks of the the playoffs, O'Neal, over the objections of team physician Brian McKeon, had "more than five" cortisone shots in his Achilles in an attempt to play against the Heat.
"Doc (McKeon) kept telling me, 'No, no,' but I wanted to play so badly," O'Neal said. "My feeling was, 'If it ruptures, it ruptures.' The Celtics were so good to me I wanted to do everything I could to get back on the court for them."

Are you **** serious? Did you watch the game? It was pointless for him to even try to play.
He started, ran up the court about twice, came up lame, and tapped out after 3 minutes.
There are some injuries you just can't "play through," and Shaq's last game is a perfect illustration of the point.

He was missed! Terry would have been able to rest a few minutes earlier during garbage time.
That garbage time lineup with Baynes, Monroe, Yabu, Nader, Semi was hilarious :P

Monroe was basically the 3rd string point guard.

#Celtics Brad Stevens: Shane Larkin did some running today, but had discomfort when catching & swinging ball so he cut practice short. He's progressing but not close to return

Celtics Stevens said former @MiamiHurricanes PG Shane Larkin "is not ready" to return from shoulder injury. There are a lot of things u need 2 be able 2 do before u get back out on the court, and he’s just not there yet. He’s itching to be there and I appreciate that about him"
Celtics Stevens said Shane Larkin "still can’t do some of the functional stuff that he needs to be able to do." Among other things, there's concern about vulnerability of his shoulder trailing shooters coming off screen

Also with the Cavs bigger lineups, he likely wouldn't see as many minutes in this series anyway. Let's save him in case we make it to the finals.
-
Might as well list him as out for the remainder of season.
-
#NEBHInjuryReport: Brad Stevens says of Shane Larkin (left shoulder sprain), “He’s progressing, but I don’t think he’ll be available for this game or for the next.”
-
Gotta be frustrating
-
The real shame is that black hole Nader has got to play at the end of games because of this injury.
