- Big Lebowski is one of the funniest movies I've seen.
- Braveheart is just an excellent action movie
- Cuckoo's Nest is simply amazing. You'll love it.
- Apocalypse Now I almost put it on the list above, but there are too many classic scenes illustrating the absurdity of war. It's really good and very quotable.
- Same with Strangelove. It's a quirky dark comedy that's maybe not as funny as it used to be, but it's a truly memorable and quotable film.
- 2001 I know a lot of people who hate this boring movie, but I find it mesmeric, creative, intellectual. Approach with an open mind.

I think The good, the bad and the ugly is by far the best western movie ever! In my opinion is a must. I also liked Rocky horror. For the rest I suscribe your ranking.
Not properly films, but I feel kind of embarrassed because I have never seen an episode of "Lost" or The Soprano's.

Everyone should also see A Clockwork Orange, if they haven't. Truly a classic.

Magnificent Seven is a great movie... but Seven Samurai is one of the best movies ever made. If you're debating between the two, watch the Japanese flick first.
Godfather III.... I wouldn't stress too much about missing that one.

BLASPHEMY! You're really missing out. Also I saw someone say to skip Heat. You're wrong. I need to see Schindler's List though I don't really want to. My summer goal is to import my entire dvd collection onto my harddrive. 1 dvd a day and it's coming slowly. I just saw The Insider and it was good.

we could start a whole nother thread just about this. if you want to ease in on a historical level go with: The Searchers (classic Wayne / John Ford), High Noon (shot in realtime -- Gary Cooper and whoa Grace Kelly), Red River (first 360 degree shot and classic Wayne) or Fort Apache (Henry Fonda doin' his thing). If you wanna roll in agunz blazin' I'd just go straight to The Wild Bunch -- 'if anybody moves, kill 'em!"

All those movies are good!! The God Father serie? are you kidding me? Embarrased, that is one of the best series of movies ever made!! Your lucky I can't revoke TP's , cause I would revoke them all!

The Godfather Movies....It really bugs me that I have not watched them. I felt the same about Band of Brothers and just had the opportunity to watch that series in the last few weeks. I love war movies and that series is honestly the best movie/show/series I have ever seen hands down,from the acting, graphics, realizm, etc....I cannot believe it took me that long to see it.

The Godfather Movies....It really bugs me that I have not watched them. I felt the same about Band of Brothers and just had the opportunity to watch that series in the last few weeks. Setting aside the 3 and a half hours might have something to do with it! Break em up if you have to (the first couple anyhow, part III is skippable)

Titanic is a great movie. For those who refuse to see it, I'm not sure how having "chick-flicky" parts is any worse than having mindless action. Powerful drama with well done special effects when the ship is sinking.
I can see how the movie wouldn't be comfortable for those who are uneasy with sentimentality, such as the 300 crowd (had to stop watching that mindless tripe after 10 minutes).

Citizen Kane bored me. I was more entertained by Casablanca, but I have a hard time getting into many of the older classics.
If you have already watched a lot of modern cinema, it is hard for older stuff to be fresh out of historical context.

I wonder how Caddyshack would hold up as a first time viewing at this point. I love it because all of the jokes are so memorable, but would they still be funny today seeing it for the first time. I'd like to think so, but audiences are different now.

The first Matrix movie was great. I didn't say anything against it. The 2nd and 3rd Matrix movies were really bad, but the first one was a great movie.

The two biggies that I have never seen are Godfather II and Casablanca. I have also missed several movies by greats like Alfred Hitchcock and Billy Wilder.
I'm not really familiar with John Cassavetes work, and I know people that swear by his movies.
And I've missed out on a lot of foreign stuff, life Fellini, Bergman, etc.
But besides Godfather II and Casablanca, I don't really catch a lot of flack for the rest. I do, however, catch hell for a lot of TV shows that I've never seen. I have never watched any of the HBO or Showtime programs that everyone has raved about, or any of the stuff on FX (except for one season of It's Always Sunny... which I loved). I haven't had cable in a couple of years, and when Ive had cable I've never had the premium channels.
But Ive been plowing through movies like a madman since starting a netflix account last month. Once I exhaust all my movie ideas I'll have to start burning through some of these TV programs everyone raves about.

I did just see a handful of Entourage episodes a few weeks ago, and I loved it. Totally destroyed the preconceived notions I had of the show.
Have also heard good things about Weeds. I have watched the first 3 seasons of Lost. Love it.

Now, Citizen Kane is a great movie.
Titanic, on the other hand, was sickening. But any movie in which Leo DiCaprio dies has some redeeming qualities.

I share a few common movies with some people several times like Caddyshack, the star war movies and Godfather III. The movie I'm most embarassed to have never seen is Scarface.
Godfather I and II really are great movies, especially the second one.
Shawshank is an incredible movie too. My second favorite of all time (behind American Beauty).
Dark Knight surprises me since it was such a big hit so recently.

Some of those are no real rush. However, there are a couple that I would humbly recommend you run, not walk, to pick these up haha...
The Rocky films are really quite good. All of them, 1, 2, 3, and 4, are entertaining at least. That's right, I said 1, 2, 3, and 4. Rocky 5? What do you mean, Rocky 5?
Ferris Bueller's Day Off is one of my favorites too.
Cusack with the boom box is "Say Anything" which is okay. But Bueller, and the Rocky series through 4 is worth watching immediately.
Also, if you are a baseball fan, The Natural is a must. If you are a big baseball fan, then you needed to see it yesterday ;)

I'm not a huge baseball fan, but I cried at the end of Field of Dreams like everyone else.
Tried to give it to my father for a Christmas and he was like "I don't get it" and I doubt ever watched it. Definitely a top 5 worst father moment. I shoulda realized he just wasn't like that.
Was For love of the game good? How's about Bull Durham? Baseball movies seem like good movies. I generally liked Bad News Bears. Didn't see Major League 1 or 2

Take everything I say with the knowledge that I am a HUGE baseball fan.
However, I don't care who you are if you're not laughing at Harry Doyle in Major League 1 and to a slightly lesser extent 2 you don't have a sense of humor. I would recommend both of those to anyone, as they are just plain funny movies.
Bull Durham is a similar classic. I love that movie, and it has many moments that are extremely quotable and definitely worth watching. Again, big baseball fan, but that's a great movie anyway.
For Love of the Game is just not as good as any of the others. It's not bad, but do not under any circumstance see that movie before Bull Durham.

Not to be "that guy" who always says to read the book... but every time I pick "The Natural" off the bookshelf, it doesn't go back until I've finished it all over again. Great movie; phenomenal read (and good to experience both).

James Bond movies with Pierce Brosnan or Timothy Dalton - just no interest whatsoever. Bond for me is Connery, Moore and now Craig.
Dr Zhivago - just never got around to it. Probably should have.
Saw - or it's sequels and my sons tell me I'm nuts not to have

You make it sound like there's no hope for the future. It's not too late to see these movies - just add them to your Netflix cue(or whatever)... ;)

A movie you should watch if you never have: Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
Kevin Spacey, John Cusack, and Jude Law are phenomenal. I mean if they weren't all amazing actors in their own right, with their own masterpieces (for me John Cusack's will always be Grosse Point Blank, but whatever, another day for that), I'd say this was the movie they all look back on and say in 30 years "I did that, and I am proud"
Then, there is the fourth character. Savannah Georgia. The character played by John Cusack calls it "Like Gone with the Wind, on Mescalin..they walk imaginary pets here, on a [freaking] leash. Alright? And they're all heavily armed and drunk. New York is boring!" Could not be more spot on. The setting is just magical.
This was also the little fact about the director. Everyone has had the moment. They watch an amazingly perfect film, and then someone sitting next to them says "Clint Eastwood directed that" This was the movie that gave me that moment.
Then there is Minerva, the hoo-doo lady (the old lady from Ladykillers), and of course, the Lady Chablis.
This movie is just about awesome. Murder, voo-doo, great acting and a sassy transvestite.
Plus Clint Eastwood's daughter is a love interest of sorts...and she is gorgeous.
Edit: I'm watching it now, and I'm about 90% positive that I just saw James Gandolfini.

off the top of my head, all of the godfathers, scarface, braveheart, all of the lord of the rings (don't have any interest in seeing them but will end up watching them at some point) all of the rocky movies (for the most part)..... Those are probably the ones im most embarrassed about not seeing. I'm not sure if even my closest friends know that i haven't seen these and i don't know if i could even tell them haha

don't buy the citizen kane hype! not a very good movie. i thought the deer hunter was amazing. so very slow.it can even seem borng but man you feel like you know the guys which really makes ya care about the characters. man, john savage i thought was awesome.

still haven't seen the entire LOTR trilogy, only the first movie. Also, I've only seen 1 1/2 of the Pirates of the Carribean movies...fell asleep in the 2nd one and never saw the third.

John Savage is a great actor. He deserves better roles.
I like Citizen Kane -- and love The Deer Hunter. Also like John Savage. Catch 'Inside Moves' with Savage -- a little too warm and fuzzy for some, but a basketball flick with good acting and might bring a tear to your eye.

ya HAVE TO see the breakfast club. 80's classic, but really just an awesome movie!
