Won’t need him til ECF vs Raptors. Pacers and Bucks shouldn’t be very challenging.

Well it's time to start Brown at SG Brad.
Jaylen Brown for All-NBA

As long as it means more minutes for Hayward, I'm cool with it.

If our chances in the playoffs come down to Marcus Smart, this roster was a giant failure anyways.

I mean, if the team was actually going to go on a deep playoff run, Smart is exactly the kind of key role player you need to make big plays in close games.

Didn't the Warriors' chances in 2015 come down to Andre Iguodala?

Our Iguodala is supposed to be Jaylen Brown.

This team has had "too many guys syndrome" all year.

If we can't win a couple playoff rounds with Kyrie, Hayward, Tatum and Horford - we need to clean house.

I mean, seems like that's already kinda been determined, no?

Not really.  Too many [dang] players.  There's evidence that suggests we're better when less guys play.  11-3 without Kyrie.  8-0 without Jaylen.   Won our first 6 without Horford.  I'm fine with Smart sitting if it means we have an easier time of managing this mess.

Good take on the situation. Would rather have Smart in the rotation than Rozier or Brown but otherwise we have the talent and depth to get through the first 2 rounds. However I think you need Smart to win in the finals and probably ECF.

Have been hearing that despite the 4-6 week timetable on the Celtics' press release, the belief is that it's a 3-5 week injury for Marcus Smart.

Well, there's that at least, and knowing how tough Smart is he'll probably push that earlier timeline. Maybe he will be able to be back in the middle of the series versus Milwaukee, just like last year.

Torn oblique? Alright, the Celtics are in between getting swept by Milwaukee or lose in 5 games. That team is too long and athletic against the Celtics.

Are we hoping for a Scary Terry 2.0? Eric Bledsoe sure is licking his chops right now tho.

Come on, man - get it right. Who's Eric Bledsoe?  ;)

Obviously bad news about Smart, but Brown is an amazing replacement. I know people are down on Terry, but he does seem to perform better with more minutes. And I am always happy to see more of Hayward.

We should get by Indiana (hopefully) and will need things to bounce our way vs the Bucks regardless of Smart's presence. It's not ideal, but not the end of the world either.

You guys blaming Brad for this are out of line.

It was a regular season game and NBA players get payed to play

The players already had Tuesday off. What are they supposed to? Not play a single game in 8 days leading up to the playoffs?
Then they would've been as rusty as hell.

How many days are the players supposed to have off?

I guess someone has to be blamed for everything.

Please.

Logic escapes people when their bias and hatred is strong.
It was the first game in a while where the rotation guys are all healthy, and we just had a change in starting lineup. It was against a playoff team who we had trouble dealing with. It was the PERFECT OPPORTUNITY to get one last dry run for the playoffs. And oh, btw the 3rd seed wasn't out of reach then.

Those with Stevens hatred are using confirmation Bias to further their own narratives.

So glad that meaningless game vs Orlando was worth it. Should have sat everyone.

Start Brown. Need Hayward on the second unit to even out Rozier

Exactly what I was thinking.
It could just as easily have happened the first game of the playoffs.  How can you blame the coach for playing his players, even if the game didn’t mean anything?  Stuff happens.  Deal with it and move on.

Well he did come back towards the beginning of his timeline for the thumb injury last year. Nobody doubts his toughness. That said, at some point its a matter of effectiveness. An oblique injury I'd imagine would impact somebody like Smart more than a thumb injury would.

It's not even Stevens bias or hatred as much as it is logic.

I'd have no problem criticizing Brad if he played the starting lineup in Washington and someone got injured. But this was the penultimate game of the season and guys needed their final burn before the playoffs. That same night, the Raptors played Miami and guess what? The entire Raptors starting lineup played (INCLUDING Kawhi.)

Milwaukee clinched a playoff spot in early March. Should they have benched Giannis since then?

If so, he would've looked like he was in training camp during game 1 of the playoffs.

It's just silly to blame Brad for Smart's injury.

Smart is not a huge loss at least over the first 2 rounds. Semi can probably give you 85% of what Smart does defensively and Rozier, as poorly as he's played, can approximate him offensively - not that either helps all that much.  Smart is a little bit better passer so that's one area where he'll be missed somewhat.

It would be nice to have him but they have enough to handle Indiana - and even a healthy Smart doesn't move the needle all that much vs the Bucks.  Semi is taller so he may get some of Smart's minutes vs them anyway.
