Wouldn't trade Nader/Larkin and two 2nds for Evans?? UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the implication is that we offered this and Memphis said no, not the other way around.

Yeah, apparently Memphis countered with Smart for Evans and we said no way.

The other difficulty here is matching salary.

I don't want to trade Horford to get him, but the other way to get him is through trading BOTH Tatum + Brown, and then probably Morris, Rozier, Yabusele, maybe even Smart (via S&T). That's A TON (guts our team too).

That's why, even though they are extremely unlikely as well, you could work out a deal for Kawhi Leonard, or Devin Booker, or those kind of guys relatively easily in terms of matching salaries and such.

I love Horford and have no desire to trade him, but if it helped to facilitate a Davis deal, he'd be on a plane faster than I can say "Graceland."

If Horford opts into his player option in 2019/2020, he'll be owed $30M that year. Davis will be owed $27M, one year before his final year. That might be the time to strike. By then we might still have the Memphis pick (MAYBE) and it might be an increasingly valuable asset. That's two seasons from now... and probably too far to make any realistic prediction.

I think this season's playoff run will impact immediate next steps. If we surprise and go deep, DA might say, hey we got Gordon coming back so why mess with success. But if we peter our in the first round or something, Danny might feel empowered to pull a Davis trade if one becomes available.

But again - as I've mentioned before - we're playing with house money. Trading away enough salary now to make room for Davis would basically be the equivalent of what we did last summer, turning over our roster immensely. I was all for it last summer; but I'd rather wait for AD's value to get all the way down before pulling the trigger. You know Danny wants to keep Jaylen and Jayson and he's going to make an effort to pull off a heist.

Lastly, we could even be in position to make a bid for free-agent AD when his contract expires.

Probably a summation of various rumors throughout the last year or so, but one thing to note is that Lifshatz called Hayward to Boston well before it actually happened.

@DanLifshatz
Let me rephrase. Hayward has agreed to terms with team and is signing with the Celtics. It's a done deal

Again went on my man Elliot's podcast to discuss all things Kyrie. Delved deep into the trade, and talked about what lies ahead for the C's https://twitter.com/elliotfrmboston/status/901050568029941760

The guy has been right about numerous things. He called the Jaylen pick and Horford signings. Was correct about the Blake Griffin trade rumor before it leaked. Was right about the Hayward signing, Tatum pick and Kyrie trade as well. Give the podcast a listen.

Here's some of the interesting stuff he dropped on there:
- Cs did try to deal IT last year at the draft, just like Jackie Mac said. Ainge thought he could get Jaylen at the 7-10 range. He would then use the 3rd pick for Dunn and trade him to Chicago for Butler.
- Cs doctor advised the Celtics that IT's hip was bad and would be a lingering injury
- Hayward had his mind made up to sign with Boston days before the meeting. Completely lied about the process on Woj's podcast
- Grousbeck and Dan Gilbert were in Italy at around the end of July discussing the deal for Kyrie
- LeBron is mad about the deal. He wanted Bledsoe and Jackson. Will leave Cleveland next season
- Celtics advanced stats department had IT ranked dead last on defense of all the players in the playoffs last year

The guy cusses too much and sounds like he smokes a pack of cigarettes a day, but it is still a great listen.

Dan Lifshatz seems more of a reliable source than Sherrod Blakely, Chris Broussard, Stephen A. Smith, and at times...Adrian Woj.

Celtics will try to hold on to Tatum in a trade if they can.

I would not hesitate to trade Tatum if we are getting Davis back in return.  Our starting 5 next season would be:

Irving
Brown
Hayward
Davis
Horford

I like that all day long.   Right now, Tatum seems to have more promise than Brown but you never know.  Plus Hayward and Tatum are both natural SF (yes, I still like the old positions) so one of them would be playing out of position.

Can we trade Brown instead of Tatum. I'll do that any day of the week.

I'm probably one of the few who would value Brown at least equally to Tatum, and maybe even moreso.  But that's probably a different thread.

--Says Pelicans realize AD is likely going to walk in FA and that AD has told them that. Apparently Pelicans and Celtics had "real serious talks" about AD last summer. They weren't close to a trade but groundwork was laid. Says Demps trading AD is more likely with the injury to Cousins because he thinks Cousins will leave and the Holiday contract is bad, so he might have no choice as the team realizes it can't win. Says the difference in situations between the Cousins trade and possible AD trade is that the Kings had been considering moving DeMarcus for years, but the Pelicans have only been seriously considering moving AD for a shorter time period. Also not moving AD would be cap hell for them with all the bad contracts.
--Celtics will try to hold on to Tatum in a trade if they can. Says a lot of people around the league think Jaylen could be Jimmy Butler eventually so his value is high. Also says along with the Lakers/Kings pick, the Memphis pick has a ton of value league-wide as well.
--Says if the Pelicans don't move AD this summer, the return for AD will be significantly less, kind of like PG13.

--Says that the Celtics felt Monroe was the most realistic target and that they wanted Tyreke, but at the right price. Says the offer of Yabusele and 2 seconds never occurred, it was Larkin/Nader and 2 seconds. Also, one of the second-rounders would be heavily protected. However, says the guy Memphis wanted all along was Marcus Smart, and Danny would never do that swap straight-up.
--Says Celtics wanted good player(s) and a first for Smart.
--Says he's heard the AD situation could be like the Cousins one, no one thought they'd trade Cousins after building their new arena, and then he was moved. Says Dell Demps will likely be fired, which could trigger a lot of roster moves, including AD. Of course, says their first choice is to re-sign Cousins if Demps stays, and Demps will not want to move AD, but he might have to.
--Heard people around the league think Cousins will never be the same player after the injury. Says it could help Pelicans keep him, hears LA and even Houston make sense and will likely pursue him

Isn't this guy a sports talk radio producer? I hate to be that guy, but I highly doubt he has any real sources. Not saying radio producers can't break news, but his credibility is already at less than zero after he spent the entire weekend on twitter telling people that Felger didn't say 75% of Borges' fake column was right (spoiler alert: Felger said it clear as day, and was not joking).

If the Celtics and Pelicans had serious discussions about Davis, then I find it very encouraging. I just hope the discussions rekindle this off season.

If the Lakers Pick doesn't convey, then I don't see it happening this summer.

Another aspect was, I thought if LAL Pick conveyed, it could account for some salary that would go into the trade. But that's not an option it seems anymore.

It certainly is much more difficult without that salary, but I think it could still be done with a sign and trade of Smart (of course he would have to agree to go there and NO would have to want him).

Same here plus both Horford and Davis prefer playing PF next to a bruising C like Baynes most of the time so maybe it won’t be the ideal match with both of them together.  If we wait for Davis’s value to come down in a year or so maybe we can do Horford, and some combination of Kings pick (looking that way now), Grizzlies pick, Clippers pick, smaller assets while holding onto Brown and Tatum.

What are “real serious talks”?  What is “groundwork”?

Trades aren’t as complicated as the media makes them sound. Either the Pelicans are interested in moving AD, or they’re not.
