Per his father, as reported by ESPN. No other details yet.

Initial reports said “leg”, but Felger just said “back and abdomen”. Hopefully he’s wrong.

An ESPN reporter said the same. Shot in the lower back and out the other side.

Surveillance video is out - it's not very graphic but obviously it's someone being shot - and it looks like a straight up murder attempt from behind. Definitely not a robbery.

Best wishes to Big Papi.

Maybe not such a good time to be headed to the Dominican. Three Americans dead at a resort due to possibly pulmonary problems(was there black mold in the rooms?). Now a Dominican sports god gets shot. So much for looking at Punta Cana for my next vacation.

UPDATE: David Ortiz told emergency room doctor, "Please don't let me die. I'm a good man," after he was shot in the back Sunday night. @jtomase

Apparently he was shot in the back and the bullet passed through his abdomen. Definitely not a robbery. He underwent surgery and is in a stable condition. Some random guy had to drive him to the hospital as everyone ran, including security.

Jared Carrabis on Twitter has posted a picture of the alleged suspect detained by police. As nothing is confirmed I don't want to post it here yet.

Get better soon David!

That is some rough news. Hope everything ends up alright, he's been a true Boston legend and has given so many people wonderful memories. Wish him the best.

There is a video. He's on the top towards the left. The shooter just comes in from behind. Really awful. Thankfully it was just a single shot.

View at your own risk.

A far less grim video here. Papi's grand slam against the Tigers in 2013. Amazing.

Femoral Artery is in the leg and you can die if it gets hit via exsanguination aka loss of blood.  If this is hit a guy can pass out quickly and bleed. Here is an article how dangerous it is to be shot in the leg.

Quote
He takes the shot at 1:40 into the video.

The round penetrates the man’s leg, striking the femoral artery and either tears or severs it completely. The man takes several steps, then collapses to the ground from blood loss within 15 seconds, woozy but still upright and conscious. A 2:19, approximately 40 seconds after being shot in the leg, the man has lost so much blood that he falls over unconscious.
