I love hip hop. Preferably looking for something before/during a long basketball workout, or a before a game, but it doesn't really matter. NO LIL' WAYNE. Lol, any other suggestions are appreciated. my top ten artists are Joe Budden, Big L, anyone in Slaughterhouse really, Cassidy, Lloyd banks, Nas, Big Pun, Papoose, Ransom, and J. Cole. so who's first? and I also like all types of music, besides country, so even if it's not hip hop, I'll give it a listen.

Download the entire Nas-Illmatic album. Listen to that and tell me if you don't end up ready to stomp someone before its all over. That album..its not super fast but it like...takes you away, makes you see this place where everyone is poor, everyone is just trying to scam on one another, and only the strong survive. I just started listening to it during workouts.

Yes sir, classic album. It's funny, everyone my age (15) is listening to Wayne and Gucci Mane. Like really? Nas, is a true artist, he paints pictures, and 50% of my friends have never heard of him.

Yeah but this is true too:

Quote
Four albums in ten years (playa)?  I can divide
That's one every let's say two, two of them ---- was due
One was - NAHHH, the other was "Illmatic"
That's a one hot album every ten year average

Jay-Z is the best living rapper, and I don't think the discussion anywhere is close. It would be a lot closer if Nas had more albums like Illmatic early in his career. It was Written was okay, but I am... and Nastrodamus, plus all his work with the Firm was AWFUL.

Jay-Z has a style that transcends music. he will be relevant as long as he is making music because he is as gifted an entertainer as there ever has been.

No one is a better song writer than Nas though IMO. The thing is, songwriters arent relevant anymore in rap. Nas made a big comeback with Stillmatic. Everything after that was pretty solid. The Nas and Damien Marley album is nearly perfect by the way.

This is not 1999 and I am not comparing the two. I love them both pretty equally to tell you the truth.

Oh man i am getting old if your friends have never heard of Nas. Im sad.

Most are idiots, they haven't heard of them because all they listen to is the radio or MTV. Have you ever listened to Joe Budden? like the Mood Muzik Joe Budden, not the pump it up Joe Budden. All Of Me has to be one of the best songs I've ever heard.

ILL have to check that Budden album out. I hevent heard much but I do like him.

Not a big Jay-Z fan, but I like some songs. Nothing recent though. Blue print 3 was overrated in my opinion.

Jay-Z's albums to me take the following rankings:

1) The Blueprint
2) Reasonable Doubt
3) The Black Album
4) In My Lifetime...Volume 2
5) American Gangster

Honestly, I haven't listened to track 1 from "Blueprint 2", "Blueprint 3", or "Kingdom Come". I liked American Gangster but after that Jay-Z effectively retired for me after "The Black Album"

Anyone know why it "disappeared"? Bad language? Not too bad, IMO.

Ok since you listed mostly East Coast guys, and you said no Lil Wayne, you're already on the right track.  So let's keep that east coast sound going:

MOP always good to get pumped up to:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHw3eK0fnyc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LrHfxW4XOg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbWmAEveZiU

Just about every MOP song is hard hitting, so those are just a few to see if you like what you hear.  Maybe check out the Warriorz album.

Also Gang Starr has a lot of classics:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U76Nde6rMTw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXCo_lR3Pp0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-o3WNbs5Ck

There's just a lot of Gang Starr classics, but I recommend the Full Clip album, it's a double LP greatest hits and b-sides, a few oldies with an earlier hip hop sound based mostly on jazz samples, but a lot of mid-to-late 90's material too, which was just a great time for that New York sound.

Like Indeed Proceed said, can't go wrong with Illmatic.

Really can't go wrong DJ Premier.
MOP, Gang Starr, Illmatic all primarily produced by Premier.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

A few more that always got me pumped when I was coming up:

Method Man - Release Yo Delf
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALaOYfZOadI

And 2pac just has that energy, Pain and Pour out some Liquor, were 2 of my favs to get pumped to:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CB8P6W4gYEw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgI8qdijcFg

Plus another 2pac one, Gangsters Paradise, hits so much harder than Coolie's:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_A8Ya9SzA8

These always helped get me pumped up when I was your age, hopefully they'll do the same for you  ;)

Heres some of my favorite Royce. Just download the whole Death Is Certain album, a legit classic. Still not letting me embed the video on here, not sure why as the same links work on other sites.

Edit: On the next page

It has to do with how many videos are posted on a page.  For whatever reason, any page of a thread will only hold so many youtube videos.  And based on this page, it looks like the magic number is 12.  (You can see the Gang Starr Royalty video came up when I posted it, but when Toppers quoted me it didn't show up, so it's nothing you're doing, or not doing.)
