Has Spearhead been mentioned yet? Home and Chocolate Supa Highway were great albums in my opinion.
“Being a Celtic is, every decision you make is about the team. Every cut you make is about the team. Every pass you make is about the team. You take yourself out of it. It’s not for everyone. If you don’t want to win, don’t want to play team basketball, and it’s more about you then you’re probably not a Celtic." Doc 2010

I was in grade school for the majority of the 90's so I can't really remember too many hip hop albums from that era that could be considered 'underrated'.

I would probably pick one of Outkast's earlier albums but that's still kinda mainstream...

Artifacts.

One that I dont think most people knew about was... Flatliners... they had a gravediggers feal to them.

I also saw earlier Boot Camp.  They were underrated.

Michael Franti has been reborn in the late 2000s, but I loved me some spearhead and saw them a few times Home was awesome - I liked some of Chocolate Supa Highway but it was trying to be something it wasn;t, I know Michael hated doing the album...go back and check the disposable heroes of hiphopracy...classic stuff

Um, it's hip hop.  by definition there's no way to possibly underrate it.   ;)

I had the j5 album....i loved it too...but it wasn't historic great or anything

That's a fair, thinking about it more, I'd take a few ahead of that one as well.  A personal fav,

Ill Communication - Beastie Boys

20 songs straight thru great record.
