I think Docs Offensive Plays are way too complex, setting 10 screens in 24 seconds of play, Rondo dribbling at the top of the key for 18 seconds then hitting up an "open man" with 6 seconds left on the clock. This system just doesn't work anymore, jump shots doesn't win games.
I'd like to see them run simple pick and roll plays, more ball rotation/ ball movement, get inside the paint, lay ups, dunks, draw fouls. That's basic basketball.
And just straight up play with EFFORT. Just more effort. Defensive and Offensive effort.

Apparently the crew were questioning Doc's ability post game today. Is that true? Do you agree?
I do on certain things. Like what timobusa said. The playbook was created over the 3, 4, 5 years that the big 3 were together.
With this much talent, simple plays are more than enough. A pick and roll with the Jet is insanely hard to stop.
Even on defense. Maybe the rotations should be simplified.

The plays where Rondo pounds the ball at the top of the circle for 18 seconds are not Doc's plays ... he has said it many times, to the team and publicly: He wants them going to the basket, all of them, and hates it when they walk the ball up and end up with last-second, forced, ugly jumpers.
Easy offense is fast offense, pushing the ball and attacking the basket. The problem is, half the time when Rondo gets out on the fast-break, he's all alone! That doesn't work ... the whole team has to run with him, and you can see his and Doc's frustration when they don't. Sorry, but Doc's offense is far from unexecutable or complex, and he shouldn't be carrying the blame here.
His rotations are seemingly questionable at times because he's still working on cohesive combinations and clarifying roles, (which is up to the personal input/work ethic of each player), and it takes time. But the primary offense from him is push the ball, attack the basket, and good things happen. It's not rocket science, and he hates the half-court game as much as anyone.

I dont know if it Docs plays or just the players running this offense but either way Ive been saying this for quite sometime now. The 18 seconds of dribbling waiting to pass it into the post only to get a TO or a last second shot just isnt working.
Keep it simple. We have great offensive players and when we get stuck in iso mode the whole offense stalls completely. Ball movement, and player movement is when we are at our best and completely unstoppable.

In today's game of complex man defenses with rotations that can then turn into zones and modified zones and then back to man defense, an offense needs to be diversified and have multiple options.
This is not high school basketball where one or two players have a vast talent superiority over the rest and so keeping plays simple and designed for them makes sense.
Offensive NBA basketball, when you do not have one of the per-eminent 4 to 5 talents in the league, has to be about ball movement, creating mismatches and getting men open with multiple options.
The Celtics have had one of the most efficient offense in the league since 2007-08. The problem is pace and an increased reliance on jump shooting. They don't push the ball on the break because they have trouble getting back on defense. They shoot lots of jump shots because they do not have the talent down low to have an inside out game that can get big men the ball in the right areas and the right matchups to take advantage of that type of offense.

We also need to stop running Allens plays for Terry. Terry knows how to create his own shot and make better decisions with the ball than Allen. Let Terry play the screen and roll game all day, or the pick and pop. We wont waste as much time and get more efficient shots at the hoop.

Rondo should be a one man fastbreak... A fastbreak isn't a fastbreak if you have to wait for others to join you. Rondo's problem is that he wants the "Assist". Tony Parker is a perfect example of a one man fastbreak. He's in attack mode even if teams get back quicker than he does. Rondo needs to register the same mentality, & to also make simple layup shots, instead of clutching fancy up n' unders. Parker keeps it very simple & he's very effective.
