I think Duncan deserves a second look at just how incredible job he has done keeping San Antonio up near the top of the Western Conference despite:
* Tony Parker being out injured for almost 30% of the season
* Kawhi Leonard missing 40% of the Spurs games
* Tiago Splitter missing 50% of the Spurs games.
Duncan is the bedrock that keeps San Antonio functioning through all these injuries and he has them at 30 wins and 17 losses. Only 2 wins out of 3rd place in the West. Spurs rate 3rd in defensive efficiency.
15 / 10 / 3 / 2 blocks and 1 steal in 30mpg.
Everything on both ends of the court - offense and defense - still revolves around him. Spurs rate 3rd in defensive efficiency despite major injuries to key defenders like Kawhi Leonard and Tiago Splitter. Duncan as a facilitator (team offense - passing, shooting) key to keeping Spurs offense ticking over.
Duncan has been incredible.
TP.
Anyone saying Timmy got into this All-Star game as a nostalgia / lifetime achievement is being ridiculous for every reason you mentioned. I think some people just assume "Oh hey it's the Spurs, they have so much depth and experience they'll be at the top". Duncan is the rock for this team and I'm so glad it has been recognised by the Coaches.
Not taking anything away from Boogie either, he has been spectacular this season. If he keeps up this level of play and still doesn't get into the All-Star game next season, well words will be had then.
