That was brutal now Canada in danger of losing too. Is Canada eliminated if they lose this?

Sabonis and Tubelis skipped the World Cup so it was only Valanciunas, but they shot 56% from 3…maybe we can get a couple on vet min  :police:

Because they lost to Brazil I think they will be out if they finish outside the top 2 in their group

Tough matchup for USA. Italy has been great so far.

Maybe the track runner did have a good point with NBA calling themselves world champions.

The size of Lithuania was a real problem for the US, but that is no excuse given the talent deficit

This seems like it should be the story of the world cup.  Mad props to Luol Deng for what he has done with the South Sudanese program, largely funding it with his own money and they've now secured their first Olympic berth in any sport.  Amazing feel good story.

Struggles for top teams are normal and nothing yet is lost for Team USA, which was internally reinforced as it prepared to face Italy in the quarterfinals Tuesday (ESPN2, 8:40 a.m. ET). One more loss, however, and it's over.

Talk about putting your body on the line for your country...Borisa Siminic of Serbia had to have a kidney removed after taking an elbow from South Sudan's Nuni Omot in their game on Wednesday last week.

Quote
MANILA, Philippines -- Boriša Simanić, a power forward on the Serbian national team, had surgery to remove a kidney after taking an elbow to the midsection during the FIBA World Cup, the Serbian Federation said Monday.

The injury happened in the final minutes of Serbia's win over South Sudan on Wednesday. Simanić was elbowed by South Sudan's Nuni Omot and immediately crumpled in pain. He was taken to the hospital and had emergency surgery that night.

Over the weekend, however, Simanić had complications. There was an issue finding his blood type, Serbian coach Svetislav Pesic said. Several Serbian players volunteered to give Simanić their blood.

On Sunday, Simanić underwent a second operation and had his kidney removed, according to a statement by Serbian national team doctor Dragan Radovanović. He is expected to remain hospitalized in Manila for some time to recover.

On Monday, Omot released a statement through South Sudan's basketball federation. He called the play where Simanic got hurt "unintentional and unfortunate."

"I am deeply saddened by the news of Simanic's injuries," he said in the statement. "As a sportsman, I firsthand understand the severity of his situation and I am deeply sorry that this happened. No player should have to go through that. I pray for Simanic's recovery and speedy return to the court."

And despite that Lithuania are out, beaten by Serbia 87-68. They might have played their final against the US, they only shot 30% from 3 this time

This is good news for the US, Lithuania was a terrible matchup for them. They should be able to beat every other team in the comp unless they go Steph Curry on them
