Game Notes
The Celtics travel to Toronto to take on the Toronto Raptors for the second time in the last 5 days.  This is the 4th and final game between these two teams in the regular season.  The Celtics lead the series 2-1 so far with each team winning on their home court.   Needless to say, this game is very important for both teams.

The Celtics won 6 straight before losing to the Bucks on Tuesday night and are 7-3 in their last 10 games and they are 28-10 on the road.  The Raptors have lost 2 straight and are 5-5 in their last 10 games.  The Raptors have the second best home record in the league with a 31-7 home record.  It's a tough task to go into the Air Canada Centre and get a win and the Celtics have to try to do it very short handed.

The Raptors are playing in the second of back to back games after losing in Cleveland on Tuesday night.  The Celtics will also be playing in back to back games after losing in Milwaukee the on Tuesday night.  Both teams have to travel after Tuesday's game.  The Celtics are 8-4 on the second night of back to back games and they are 4-1 when both games are on the road.  The Raptors are 7-5 on the second night of back to backs and 1-1 when they are road/home.

The Celtics are still 2nd in the East, 2 games behind these Toronto Raptors.    The Cavs are 5.5 games back in 3rd with no chance to move up into 2nd place.   The Celtics still have a chance to move up to #1 if they can get a win in this game.  Miami, Washington, and Milwaukee are tied for the 6-8 seeds.  Currently Washington is in 7th and would be the Celtics opponent if the season were to end now.  Milwaukee is in 8th and Miami is 6th.

Marcus Smart (thumb), Kyrie Irving (knee), Daniel Theis (knee), and Gordon Hayward (ankle) are all still out as expected.  Shane Larkin spent a couple of days in the hospital with the flu and is questionable. He missed Tuesday's game against the Bucks and it is possible he may travel to Toronto for this game if he is feeling better.

Terry Rozier missed Monday's practice with a tweaked ankle and had said that he planned to play against the Bucks but was ruled out against them.  My guess is that he will play in this one.
If Rozier can't play, Kadeem Allen will probably start again but who knows at this point.  The Raptors have no injuries to report as I write this.

Key Matchups
(https://basketball.realgm.com/images/nba/4.2/profiles/photos/2006/Brown_Jaylen_bos17.jpg) vs (https://basketball.realgm.com/images/nba/4.2/profiles/photos/2006/DeRozan_DeMar_tor17.jpg)
Jaylen Brown vs DeMar DeRozan
DeRozan is the Raptors best player and he is averaging 23.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.  He is averaging 19.5 points per game in the three games against Boston so far this season.  Jaylen will need to play lock down defense to keep DeMar from having a big game.

(https://basketball.realgm.com/images/nba/4.2/profiles/photos/2006/Rozier_Terry_bos17.jpg) vs (http://basketball.realgm.com/images/nba/4.2/profiles/photos/2006/Lowry_Kyle_tor14.jpg)
Terry Rozier vs Kyle Lowry
Lowry has given the Celtics problems in the past and so they need to pay particular attention to slowing him down.  He is averaging 16.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 1.1 steals. He averaged 21.0 points in the three games against Boston so far this season.  I'm thinking positive and hoping that Rozier will play in this one and that he was sitting out against the Bucks so that he would be ready for this game.  Rozier will need to play Lowry tough on both ends of the court.

Honorable Mention
Celtics Bench vs Raptors Bench
The Raptors' bench  leads the league with 45.1 points per game.  They are at full strength and have played very strong this season. CJ Miles scored 20 points against the Celtics in their 2nd meeting but was held to just 3 points in Saturday's game.  The Celtics also held their bench to just 20 points in spite of having so many injuries to deplete their bench.  The Celtics have to step up and play tough against the Raptors second unit once again if they hope to get a win in this game.

Keys to the Game
Defense

Defense has always been and always will be the key to winning.   The Celtics have the best defensive rating in the league at 101.2.  The Raptors are 5th with a defensive rating of 103.6.  They need to play particularly tough defense against the Raptors since they are averaging 112.5 points per game and are capable of putting up a lot of points in a hurry.   If the Celtics win this game, it will be with defense.

Be Aggressive
The Celtics must be the more aggressive team.  They have to be aggressive on defense, in going after loose balls, in crashing the boards,  and just all around going all out. They have to aggressively attack the basket. They need to start the game with that aggressive attitude and be aggressive through the whole game with no let up.   Their only hope to win because of their injuries is for every player to play their hardest and to play harder than the Raptors.

Rebound

The Celtics must crash the boards. They can't score if they don't have the ball. Much of rebounding is effort and desire and the Celtics have to be the team that puts out more effort from every player to go after rebounds.   The Celtics are 8th in rebounding at 44.4 per game.  The Raptors are 17th with 43.6 per game.  The Celtics have to crash the boards and beat the Raptors to the rebounds if they want to get a win.

Next Man Up
The Celtics have been finding ways to win even without key players.  They have been missing 6 of their top players and yet have won 6 straight with 4 of those on the road.  This will be the toughest game yet and every player will have to step up once again for the Celtics to have a chance at a win in this one.

X-Factors
Revenge Factor - The Raptors are still stinging from the loss to the Celtics on Saturday.  They thought they would get an easy win against a depleted Celtics team but were surprised by the Celtics feisty play and never give up attitude.  The Raptors also lost to the Cavs on Tuesday and will want to get back to winning after that loss as well.  The Raptors are going to come into this game looking to get even and so the Celtics need to be ready to face the Raptors A game in this one.

Injuries -  I'm hoping that Terry Rozier will be playing in this game and if he can't that will make this game very, very difficult to win.  But even if he does, the Celtics are still very short handed and the young players and rookies will need to step up once again.  The Raptors are at full strength and that makes the Celtics job even harder.

Fatigue - Both teams are playing in the second of back to back games and both teams had to travel after Tuesday's game.  The Raptors have a full bench and so have more fresh bodies they can throw at the Celtics while the Celtics are so short handed they have to play just about everybody big minutes.    Hopefully the Celtics youth will give them a slight advantage.

All due respect to Kadeem Allen (who was servicable in his first start), but it will be nice to have our big three back together: Rozier, Morris, Tatum

Sorry to nitpick, but Nigel Hayes is in Sacramento, now. Just so you know, and TP for all of your great work, as always :).

Also, if Rozier outplays Lowry, again, well, LOL ;D.

After the loss last night, Cs basically need to win out to have any shot at #1 seed. I find that unlikely. I would not be opposed to just managing people's minutes/days off in preparation for the playoffs at this point and try and get the remaining survivors on this roster rested up and as healthy as possible.

All depends on tonight’s game, imo. If we win, I think we make up the other game with the easier schedule (we only have @WAS and they have to play vIND and @MIA, all jockeying for playoff seeding).

Although, I’m certain I said that last season and then we got smoked by CLE and still somehow got the top seed.

Terry Rozier is tremendous.  SO much improved.  In addition to making things happen offensively, he's already pulled down 2 defensive boards that were pure grit boards.

He's an asset for sure.  I think he's pushing his trade value into the Jaylen Brown range.

Yeah, while the Rockets look legit and actually could make the Finals (even with GSW in the West), the Raptors are proving to be choke artists again.

No way this Raptors team beats Cleveland, and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if a team like PHI or WAS (w/healthy Wall) bounces them out in one of the early rounds.

I thought this Raptors team was honestly legit with a deep bench but idk anymore... still a great team but maybe not as elite as we thought.

Raptors just look like completely different team once half court playoff basketball rolls around.

No matter how hard they've tried this year to change their play style and identity, and for much of the year succeeded at it, they always revert back to their old ways in the big moments.  In other words, way too much your-turn-my-turn isolation offense from Lowry and DeRozan.  They just bog down trying to force things instead of moving the basketball.

Hey, if Kawhi becomes available and Rozier = Jaylen to them, and we keep both Brown + Tatum, that would be HUGE.  ;D

Of course I have no idea what GMs are thinking, but TR is looking like a bona fide starting PG in this league.  Good attitude; hard worker...   I do think Rozier's emergence gives the C's another high value asset.

Is Rozier's improvement basically sealing smart's fate?  a few weeks ago I would have thought that was crazy.  After all these starts in place of Kyrie, I am seriously starting to wonder.

I wish Horford would step up more in these kinds of games.

Nice to see the young guys and rookies make plays but to win games, we need Horford to also contribute more (especially with like half our team missing and most of our starters)

I'm SO GLAD we go into the playoffs having guys like Baynes and Monroe instead of last year when we had the corpse of Amir, Zeller and Olynyk (who was fantastic in that Game 7 but literally was missing every other playoff game).

We've got guys playing right now that shouldn't ever see a minute of action under normal circumstances.

Well with most teams, their bench is a def step down in talent and production.  With Toronto their bench has been super important to their team.  I don't know why they would make a big change once they hit the  playoffs?  They need to play those guys.

Sure, but their bench players will be playing against other team's starters much more often than they have in the regular season.  They won't have the same impact.  The biggest value there will be keeping their starters a bit fresher.

TP - it's a sad state of affairs when we truly are counting 3rd and 4th stringers to play and contribute. I actually don't hate Allen (the two missed 3s and foul on Poetl, notwithstanding), but our only max guy who is playing is a no-show on offense and Brown keeps getting lame charges called on him.

What an ugly game.  Both teams are tired, but only the C's are shorthanded.

I'd rather just have Tatum or Brown handle the ball and run PnR.  Give them some reps if anything else.  Aside from his rebounding Rozier has been awful.

Honest question: Kyrie and Smart are very likely out for the 1st round, can we advance without them? If we can get Milwaukee - and to a lesser extent, Miami - I like our chances. Washington makes me a little nervous without those guys.
The answer is NO.  We basically would be operating without a PG.  We’d get exposed big time.

Larkin would be back, and we still have Terry. We could take Miami or Milwaukee, probably Washington too.

Nearly historic, if not historic, levels of offensive futility tonight from the Celtics.
This has always been the problem this season.. Lots of 5 min streches where we cant buy a basket and this is where the other teams break away..

Somehow forgot about Larkin.  As for terry, he ain’t exactly a playmaker.  He’s a chucker.  When he’s on, great.  When he’s not, look out.

Have our coaches gotten a Tech yet in this game - if not, it's long overdue. Every time I look up, a Celtic attacking the basket is on his ass.

I think that's Brad's one weakness, that he doesn't know when to get that tech like Pop does...

Well, say goodbye to the #1 seed

Yeah, but it was always nothing more than an outside chance anyway.  We just don't have enough healthy bodies right now.

At this point it's better to just rest up for the playoffs.  We're locked into the #2 seed now, so staying healthy is all that matters.

It'd be awesome if Kyrie could somehow be available for the 1sr round, but yesterday's report seemed to suggest he's looking at closer to the later half of the initial 3-6 week time frame for a return.

It'll be tough to get by whoever we face (WAS/MIL/MIA), but it can be done.  Horford is going to need to play like he did in the playoffs last year, and we're going to need 'good' Terry, not whatever that was we saw tonight from him.

Its not in his gene. Reason why im willing to give him up for AD. One minute he plays like Butler.. The next he is as passive as Jeff Green.

I had to turn the sound off - Doris Burke is the worst in the business. She shouts into the mic.

The only reason she is on air is ESPN and all their politics - whenever it's an espn game, I know I am in danger of her being on air. I have to laugh at these awards she receives only because she is a woman in a man's business.

He always makes the entry pass to the guy posting up, almost like he has to bc it's the "play" which is fine but robotic sometimes. Also I feel like he gets looked to the least by other teammates when it's the other way around.

More about ability than some gene. That’s what separates those that look like butter one minute to butler himself.   Brown not good enough to be go to scorer, st least right now.

As awful as Toronto was today, we were worse.  I don't get the 'well if we were at full strength they wouldn't have a chance" comments.  Yeah we are missing Kyrie and Smart.  But for the whole season they were the better team.  They just cemented home court through the whole east playoffs.  They may not be able to take out the Cavs, but if we play them in the ECF, they have home court and we don't.  They have been very good on their home court, and I don't have a lot of confidence that we can beat them in a 7 game series.

Putting aside the labels for a second, because that's just not going to lead anywhere good, what exactly about basketball makes it a man's sport?  Do women not also play basketball?  Is what is going on out there really impossible for a woman to comprehend and competently comment on?

I said "NBA Basketball"

Women can do all the women's games they want. Broadcasting is just something that men are better at than women. Pretending otherwise does not make you a beautiful human being.

Yes, "Players Only" is often bad, some of those guys are terrible at broadcasting (you know, sorta like women are). Relax, there are plenty of things women are better at than men. Overall, they are probably better people.

Not when what's being said is true.  Everyone agrees that she's straight up trash as an analyst/commentator.  But because ESPN is a far-left leaning company they won't replace her with a more knowledgeable male for fear of backlash.  I'm not telling her to go in the kitchen to make everyone a sandwich, I'm just saying she benefits from the female privilege that exists these days.

I didn't think I would see anything worse than the game tonight until I read the last two comments. Hope everyone has a good night.

Doris Burke is terrible, I won't pretend she isn't.

But, "a man's business"?  Really?  It's time to come out of your cave.
Yeah, Burke is a trash commentator, but that second half is a bit much.

Burke is bad but better than listening to Mark Jackson.

Kind of hilarious complaining about female privilege now when men have benefited from male privilege from pretty much all of human history.

How is that hilarious at all? Privileges that males have experienced have been demonised for years, why are the ones that women experience off limits?

I said "NBA Basketball"

Women can do all the women's games they want. Broadcasting is just something that men are better at than women. Pretending otherwise does not make you a beautiful human being.

So I take you are also equally offended when men broadcast women's games?

And what about coaching?  I'm assuming men should not be allowed to coach women's basketball, and vice versa?

As far as the game goes ................... we just ran out of steam these past two games. Not enough firepower to keep the road streak going.

I maintain that, even after we get our injured players back (Hayward included) - I still think we need to add a killer spot-up shooter to start winning titles..................probably also need an upgrade in the post with an Ibaka/Jordan-like defender/rebounder. We have to work too hard at this point to score and rebound.

I'm not going to get into whether or not a "women's privilege" exists, but if it does, shouldn't the 'two wrongs don't make a right' theory apply?

Yes, "Players Only" is often bad, some of those guys are terrible at broadcasting (you know, sorta like women are). Relax, there are plenty of things women are better at than men. Overall, they are probably better people.

Pretty small sample size to be making that claim with. Get back to me when enough women have actually been permitted to call an NBA game (ie. more than half a dozen), and then we can make an equal and balanced comparison against the hundreds of men that hold that occupation. It's not just a question of talent and intelligence, but also one of opportunity. On the same note, "they only let her call games because she's a woman" is utter nonsense. In a field where something like 85% of employees are men, the gender bias pretty obviously and statistically goes the other way. Why is it so hard to admit that Doris Burke is likely just as professionally qualified as her male peers, some of whom also happen to be awful?

Mark Jackson is very good. I love his basketball values.

All the comments about what a neanderthal I supposedly am are laughable. I am quite the feminist. But I don't want someone doing commentary on something they have never done before ........... and no women have ever played in the NBA. And every woman that does commentary on a man's sport sounds forced, because they are. What a bunch of correct hacks you are.

Feminist? More like misogynist. Lost the little respect I had for you.
