Former Celtic great Dennis Johnson, who helped Boston to two NBA titles, has been elected to the Naismith Hall of Fame, according to a source close to the Hall. The announcement will come Monday at 11 a.m. from Indianapolis and Johnson will be amongst those tabbed.

Johnson, who passed away in February 2007, played 14 seasons in the NBA, four with the Seattle SuperSonics, three with the Phoenix Suns and the final seven with the Celtics. He was the team's point guard and floor leader during the glory years. Johnson played in five All-Star Game, was the 1978-79 NBA Finals MVP and a seven-time first-team All NBA defensive selection.

Johnson had been passed up for years but support soared for his election following his sudden death at age 52 from a heart attack. Johnson had his number 3 retired by the Celtics and was considered one of the top guards of his era.

DJ should have been in the hall before, sad that it didn't happen while he was alive.  Very well deserved.  Imagine him every getting elected by popular fan vote?

i love Dennis Johnson.

i remember going down to the Omni in atlanta to watch the Celts in the 80's. after yet another dismantling of the Hawks by those Celtics, DJ came out of the locker room and started down another tunnel evidently that exited to the team bus .......... some atlanta fan yelled something about the hawks getting the Celtics next time they came to town and DJ laughed as he walked away, shaking his head, "Never gonna happen." he wasn't really bragging or being a jerk, not at all. he just knew how good he was and how good his team was. i loved it.

in this day of sports when style & persona usually gets much more attention than real substance, Dennis Johnson was the ultimate player of substance who didn't care what others thought, besides his teammates and family.

most of all DJ loved being a Celtic. so glad he got to see his number go to the rafters before he left us. i hope Larry, KC and the rest show up for his HOF induction.

God Speed DJ.

Very well deserved. But again, it would have been ideal if he was elected when he was still alive.

Finally.

This is great news.

Well deserved.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

Long, long overdue.

MY only regret is it took to long for DJ to see it  :'(
